Well, I started working for a Chevy dealership last week. So I have been driving quite a few vetts lately, including the C6. Well, the new C6's have a feature that i really like, and i was considering doing it to my car if possible. For those of you who dont know...the newVett uses a keyless FOB system. The difference of this system from most is that there is NO key...not even an ignition switch in the column for one. Instead the car works soley off of the key FOB (the same as a factory alarm FOB).The FOB unlocks/locks the car just like any other does. But the cool feature is the push button start. The car has a button on the dash that will light up green when it detects the FOB's in the car, therefore allowing you to push the button and the car fires right up. It also locks the car as soon as the FOB's leave the interior of the car.

NOW....my question is: Does anyone know of an aftermarket FOB system that does this. The main thing im looking at is that i want to remove my ignition and replace it w/ a button that uses this type of FOB detection. I have done a little searching, but only found one such setup....but i was unable to find anyone that sold it. Thanks for any info ahead of time.

Though you'd have to disconnect the clutch wire... and make sure that you never shut it off and toss it in first so you won't roll down a hill if the e-brake fails.

Ok.... i just gotta ask. What happens when the remote dies? Or if you lose it... i mean i know you can lose keys too, but im sure spare keys are way cheaper. This just seems like one of those things GM may be scratching their head saying... what were we thinking? in a few years...... I personally would just install a push button starter, and keep the key to unlock the wheel.

Lol, I remember reading about this feature in the new vette before it came out. If something messes up (battery dies, remote dies etc) while your in the car, there are NO interior door handles. Just a push button to pop the door open. The manual release for the door, is in the trunk

But yeah, GM likes doing stupid stuff like this. I think it's just an ploy to make you spend ALOT more money when stuff breaks.
Like at work the other day, I finally got a chance to take a closer look at the 3.4L V6 engines for the Pontiac Torrent (we have 3000 of them sitting on racks). The waterpump and the front case/cover is all one piece. So in order to change the water pump, you have to remove every single belt, every single pulley, then pull the whole front cover off, and replace the whole front cover. $$$$$
