But please run your ignition key naked.

What the hell does that matter?
Every little bump and divot you hit going down the road makes your key into a hammer if you have a picture of the dog, house keys, garage keys, locker keys, pistol-shaped cigarette lighter, pop-tab wrench, roach clip and whatever other kind of crap hanging off it. It beats out the pins in the ignition lock, and deforms the key cuts.
I made a mint in my wrenching days replacing the ignition locks on Hondas, because of the boat anchors women would hang off their keys.

Run your ignition key naked.

i know this might sound stupid but when you guys say get a "jumper wire? from pin 1 - 4 Do you just mean get a normal wire insert in pin1 then into pin4 ? then reg wire from pin1 to metal for ground ? :talon:

dsm4life, this might sound ghetto as hell, but I just cut out a piece of metal spiral from my spiral notebook and used that to connect the 1 and 4 pins. My guess is anything of that sort like a paper clip will work just fine. Also, connecting the 1 and 4 pins IS grounding the system. Hope that helps.

Once again defiant you have quickly replied to my thread and succesfully answer my question. Thanks alot , now is your keyless remote different or the same?
Andrew

Wellll... and interesting bit of info there. No, the Talons don't have a "panic" button. That is, they don't have the pushbutton on the case. However, I got a couple of remotes off eBay, except for the Eclipse. Same part and shape, but the Eclipse remotes, as you see, do have the panic button. So I was fiddling with batteries and just generally messing around, and it turns out that the guts to the Talon remotes are the _same_ as for the Eclipse- _with_ the panic circuit etched right there onto the circuit board- just no pushbutton. So, I took the top half of the Eclipse case, and the rubber membrane with the panic button, and put those on the Talon circuit board and bottom-half. Voyla, the panic button works just like it should. Seems to scare the crap outta the car, its lights flash and a horn much louder than the road horn goes off.

Goddamn marketing.

Yours does. It was stock on the TSi. Grab a remote off eBay and follow the programming directions above.

any 95-99 mitsu fob will work right? if they do ill grab one, thanks defiant!!:D :thumb: :talon:

I heard somewhere that you have keyless entry if when you lock the doors, the green security light comes on on the instrument panel. I dont know if thats true or not.

As for the panic thing, my keychain has a panic button, it was a Pre-96 thing where the remotes had no panic button.

That sems right.

Bizarre. Yet the circuitry is in there.

Marketing. Who knows.

I'm trying to find out whether or not my car is equipped with factory keyless entry...

Where exactly is the receiver box located? I think it's supposed to be behind the rear driver side interior panel, but I searched around online and couldn't find a definate answer.

Anyways, I pulled that panel off and didnt see anything. Is that where it would be if it was equipped? I assume it would be tied in with the other wires running through there... If I'm even looking in the right spot, that is.

I'd appreciate any help... thanks :thumb:

ok, take off rear driverside panel where the rear stock speaker is . thats were the box should be if you have it.

I could have sworn I saw the receiver box in my '93 Talon on the passenger side under the rear window, behind the plastic, when I was removing the wires for the factory aftermarket CD changer. (I told the insurance people I put it in and they let me take it.)

It would be easier to call the dealer and give them your vin# to see if you have it, but if you really want to find out for yourself, its in the rear panel behind the drivers seat. between the speaker and where it ends. its a little black box.

I have a problem that is two fold. My 1996 eclipse GST didn't come with a FOB for my keyless entry system and my power locks dont work. I found a post on here that told me where to look to see if i had remote keyless entry and to take a look at my power lock control. It looks like my power lock control part # MB543648 isnt working. I have no clue where to get a new one on the internet and there is no mitsubishi dealer near me. I know i can buy a new FOB really easy and when i get it i will have another problem! In the discription for the remote keyless control, it says there is switch to program the new FOB but I dont have a switch on my black box. Could you please help me figure out how to get my power locks to work and maybe help me get my keyless workin too. Thanx

Use this method if you dont have a switch. My car didnt have a switch either. As for the part you need, www.partznet.com They are cheap.

Keyless programming for 97+ DSM's
To reprogram your keyless entry system for a new key fob:
1) Turn ignition to OFF.
2) Ground pin 1 of the Data Link Connector (black 16-pin connector under dash driver's side). Pin 4 of this connector is a ground, so placing a jumper wire between pins 1 & 4 will accomplish this. Grounding pin 1 tells the system you are getting ready to reprogram it.
3) Close all the doors.
4) Turn the key to ACC, then back to OFF. The power locks will lock/unlock. The system is now ready to be programmed.
5) Press a button on your key fob.
6) If you have two key fobs, press a button on the second fob within 1 minute of pressing a button on the first one. Both must be programmed at the same time. If you only have one remote, press a button on it 2 more times to signal that you only have one.
7) The doors will lock/unlock to signal that the codes were received.
8) Remove the connection between pins 1 & 4.

lay down under the drivers dash (head by your brake pedal) and look up and you will see it close to the side wall of the middle console

I know where it is located but i didnt know where pin1 and pin4 was...............i found it out on my own i used a paper clip and the one closest to your radio is pin1 and then count over for pin 4 stick the paper clip in the pins and then follow the steps
