2G How to install BoostX 2G AWD Rear Subframe Bushings

Since the BoostX rear subframe bushings are available for 2G's now, here is a write up on how to properly install them.

Tools needed:

1. Torch
2. Flathead screwdriver
3. Long handled pliers
4. Wire wheel
5. Bucket of water
6. Hammer
7. Anti-seize lubricant (optional)

Step 1: Remove the rear subframe from the car (completely off the car would be ideal).

Step 2: Remove the upper and lower hats from the subframe bushings. Keep the lower ones and throw away the top ones.

Notice there is an outer sleeve, a secondary sleeve, and a center sleeve where the bolt goes through.

Step 3: Set it on fire, literally. I just used a $15 propane torch from Advance Auto Parts. As it burns, remove the rubber material with a flathead screwdriver.

Step 4: Remove the center sleeve with pliers and place in bucket of water.

Step 5: Remove the secondary sleeve with pliers, place in water, then throw it away (So you don't melt your trash can).

Step 6: Scrape the inside of the outer sleeve as it is burning until the rubber has been removed. Put the fire out and clean up the mess.

Step 7: Grab your trusty wire wheel (Mine is just an attachment on an electric drill) and run it over the area you just burned. DO NOT remove this outer sleeve from the subframe and only use the wire wheel enough to remove the leftover rubber material.

Step 8: Use your hammer to drive the bushing into the subframe. You can coat the sidewall with anti-seize lubricant if you are worried about them being noisy and to make it easier to go in.

Step 9: Use your wire wheel to clean the center sleeve and drive into bushing with hammer.

Step 10: Set the top ring on the top.

Step 11: Burn the rubber off of the lower spacer that you originally saved and clean it up with the wire wheel. You will be left with a clean concave washer.

Step 12: Place the washer in the bottom of the bushing and re-install subframe.
