In advance, i want to thank everyone for the help to this question. I searched how to change the fuel filter on this site, but all of them were for the 420a's.

My main problem right now is depressurizing the system. i lifted up the backseat and opened that panel, but i believe there are 3 wires, which do i pull out? Also my battery has been out of my car for quite some time, will there still be pressure in my system even though there is no power to the car? Finally, the fuel filter is that small can located between and under the battery and the intake manifold correct or no?

do u have a fuel pressure gauge on the fuel pump? if u dont i recommend getting one since when u want to tune u will have to know the fuel pressure, i think gst have 42.6 stock fuel pressure. on most cars if u dont use the car for awhile the pressure goes down, not sure up to what point and how fast.
 
in order to depressurize the system pull the gas cap off to depressurize the tank which should also depressurize the system there will still be fuel in the lines so use a rag when disconnecting the lines. use a line wrench when disconnecting the top and bottom fittings so that you dont round the fitting. also use the appropriate sized wrench on the filter as it is hexed for that very reason.
 
YES IT IS THE WORSE EXPERIENCE EVER!! Im still trying to get that damn bottom bolt off. When i got my car i think it was in like a flood or something. because of some rust in various places. but it could be from road salt since the last owner lived in NJ. I cant get that lower bolt to budge at all.. its pissing me the hell off!

Im all worn out. Im just going to take it to damn Midas!
 
Yeah, some people have terrible experiences doing it themselves. I personally didn't think it was too hard. It took me about 45 minutes-an hour. Make sure the filter is in there tight so you don't have any leaking gas!
 
Isn't the fuel pump relay on a FWD near the front of the car? I don't know exactly where I am getting this from exactly, but I could swear someone said it was behind the transmission by the firewall? Right with the fuel pump or something.

Fuel pump is no where near the transmission. Fyi fuel pump is located under the backseats and fel filter is under the battery above the the transmission. Easy to remove and easier to install.
 
Guys!

I am in the process of replacing my filter as well. I was able to get everything loosened an the old filter removed. When I went to install the new filter, the bottom nut, which connects the bottom hard line to the filter is stripped. I am afraid to force it in because I think it will cause it to leak.

What should I do? Any help is greatly appreciated!
 
How did you get it off if it's stripped? Reflaring on the car is damn near impossible. I had to do this repair once, I cut a section of line off a junk car. I used a steel compression fitting to reattach the two sections of line. Do not use a brass compression fitting. For any naysayers out there I did this repair 10 years ago. Are you sure it's stripped? I've seen them where they had to be forced off all the way and nearly forced back on. If it's trash I'd say the easiest solution is what I did. Be DAMN certain the fittings are all sealed before you go driving or you will burn the car down and possibly yourself. Steel ferrules and fittings gave me no problem.

Yes I am sure. I hat to install the old filter again and the nut/bolt went perfectly in. I checked the new fuel filter to see if it was a bad part, and it is not. The job you did is simply something I am incapable of doing. Knowing this, what is my next option?

Incapable? You have few other options. Your only other option might be to find the threads of the fitting and try to clean them up with a die. You don't have much room to work. The repair I described is quite simple. What's the problem?

When I say find I mean meaure them and get an appropriate die.
 
2nd time trying this damn filter. second time got some mad had to quit. absolutely no room in there to get the leverage to move the damn bottom nut. i imagine that its the original filter so its about 185k mile old. damn nut wont budge tried it without bracket off loose and on tight. my 95 neon took me 20 minutes. this things going on 3hrs.

Take the battery out, the battery bracket out and the upper intercooler pipe off. that will give you plenty of room. If it isn't coming loose than you need to apply more force.
