i know if u got shaft play to a small amount its ok but what if u could go up and down left and right with a lil clank all directions?? and would alot of shaft play wear the seals out and cause the turbo to burn oil??? the turbo only has 5k on it . well not to mention its a e-bay evo 16g too. so any help on this would be apperciated....

ROFL You're not suppose to have an audible noises when you check for shaft play.

If the turbine or compressor wheel touch the housing = junk.

Zero in/out play, 1mm side to side play. If they touch the housing, that falls under 'unacceptable' as it'll eventually destroy the compressor and turbine wheels, as well as the housings. Sounds like it's time for a rebuild on your end. Yes, excessive shaft play can cause oil to leak, as well as potentially allow oil and water to mix if you're on a MHI oil/water center spool (aka: OEM).
In addition, when the compressor wheel starts getting damaged, you also send grains/flakes/shards of metal into your intake... hopefully being caught by the intercooler, but potentially making it through and into the cylinders, where they'll scratch up the cylinder walls and lead to low compression and necessitating a full rebuild.

If you have shaft play that bad, get it fixed ASAP. Today, if possible, especially on a DD.

From what I was told, and I can't remember who told me, the knock off chinaman 16g's have larger shafts running between the compressor and turbine housing because they're of a lower quality metal. They had to make it bigger because they had smaller one with normal mitsu bearings and the shaft kept snapping. So, like idiots, they increased the diameter of the shaft and made the bearings smaller and out of brass, instead of stronger Bronze. All you gotta do get is get a set of authentic t3/t4 garrett bearings and replace them and they hold up good. However, the downside is that the turbo still needs to be professionally rebalanced to avoid it grenading under your hood. Aside from that, it should run as good as a MHI 16g.
