I have a 16g turbo, around 3 years old, that I just did a tubine housing port on and I have some shaft play (up and down). How much shaft play should I have before I put new bearings in?

A little up and down is alright. But make sure that you don't have any in and out. Make sure that the wheel can spin freely as well.

Thanks, the comperssor and tubine fins do not touch the walls of the housing, and there is no end play.

Bringing this one back from the dead. I'v went through about 20 threads now and havent found the answer I'm looking for. I'm trying to figure out whats an exceptable amount of shaft play on a 16G turbo. I already know that alittle side to side is fine but in and out is not good and if it hits the housing its not good. All of the threads say alittle is fine. But what is considered alittle?

What I'm looking for is a measurement or some other way of knowing if there is to much shaft play.

once it pours smoke its junk and shaft play is fine unless its bouncing off the housing

Not really much help. The turbo is not installed on the car and will not be going on till spring.

I'm looking for a measurement or some other way of checking it to make sure that it dosent have to much shaft play. Any wiseman care to chime in here.

I got this turbo free from a friend for helping him with his car, just trying to figure out if I should rebuild it or just run it.

well does it contact the housing at all and does it spin freely there really is no measurement on how much shaft play you have but up and down is okay in and out not good at all really so if it isnt touching the housing and it spins freely then you will be okay to run it just watch it
