How important are these gauges?

Well, I bought AEM boost, WBo2 and oil pressure gauges.

I have an AEM meth kit and I just got my motor built.

I was wondering if I would need a Meth gauge and EGT gauge. I know this has been beatin to death about "which are the best gauges to get" but this is alittle different.

You dont NEED a meth gauge but its always good to have.. and EGT is one I buy every time. I'd say EGT over Meth

Just to show the pressure that the pump is sending.

Meth gauge is so you hopefully see no pump pressue and don't grenade your motor.

i would say EGT is important, though with wideband a/f gauge EGT isnt AS important.

and for the meth injection... i had a small light that came on whenever the the pump was working. idk if an actual pressure gauge is needed.

Alright because I have the A pillar full so I was going to make a custom gauge spot where the fog, cruise control and the power mirror buttons are. I don't have any of that stuff.

Anyways so the meth gauge isn't really needed because the AEM kit has a light to tell you if the fluid is low and a failsafe thing that tells you if there is a short etc.

A quick and easy check to see if you have flow or not is have a CEL turn on at a low knock reading. If you are tuned with the meth and it's fine you will get a CEL once not enough meth is making it to the cylinders.

You can also do a failsafe by running a secondary fuel map via a stock solenoid so when x amount of knock is read at x rpm/throttle position it will switch to a richer/safer tune.

So IMHO a meth gauge isn't needed. As for an EGT, a collector mounted sensor would be a smarter location than the standard runner placement. As with the meth gauge, I don't fully feel it's necessary for thE EGT. A wideband will tell you if You are lean or not which can give you a basic understanding of temperatures. Its not a bad decision to get one but you don't need one either.

Thanks, with ecuflash I have my CEL flash with 5 counts of knock I believe. So I won't invest in a meth gauge since the AEM failsafe and ecuflash. As for the EGT gauge, I think I might get one at a later date, mostly because the guy building my motor is stressing it pretty bad.

Anyways thanks guys.

I would dropthe timing pull down to 2* from the 5*. It's safer and gives you a better warning of what's going on. Did you ask the builder why he is stressing the EGT as the wideband is more informative and better for tuning?

Just to recap, myself personally wouldnt run a meth gauge however knowing what and how things are working is never a bad thing.

That's true but I honestly don't think that anyone sees the real benefits of the EGT gauge unless monitoring each cylinder. If not then you get a general overview of the temps combined if off the collector or just a single runners temp.

Its been presented that cylinder 1 theoretically gets slightly less fuel than then rest, due to pressure bleed down. I would put the egt in that runner as it would tend to be the hottest. Still wouldn't be as valuable as a probe per port, but provides the best overall number. Now if you have a injector plug up on another cylinder, it won't help you a bit.

While that's true, it still only says anything about 1 cylinder. Who's to say that you don't end up having another cylinder go go bad from a slightly clogged injector? You wouldn't even know until you loose compression.

I'm not saying to not run one, it's just IMO "pointless" unless you do all 4 to get an accurate reading.

I agree with you, just offering up advise as to how to utilise a generally inefficent tool as effectivley as possible. I don't run one, never saw the need.
