How does the O2 dump work on our cars? It looks like it lets raw exhaust out after the wastegate...but wouldnt that be extremely illegal and make the car smell like a lawnmower? How does this work and what are the benifits of it. Thanks.

it just dumps the hot gases from the turbo straight out so it doesnt mix with the exhaust gases resulting in better flow. the point of having one is to help preven boost creep. yes, it is very emissions illegal and no, it wont smell like a lawnmower, u probably wont even smell it because it usually dumps under your car. its also loud as hell when ur at full boost, ilove it.LOL, i have one and its the greatest invention next to the wheel! :p

Annoyingly loud, very illegal, attracts attention from the cops, $150 minium.

In my opinion, an atmospheric dump 02 housing should be for a track car not a street car. I have a heavly ported 2g 02 housing on my 1g talon, and it can hold boost all day long.

alright, so I know this isnt where this thread belings, but Im thinking of adding one, I want to add it on to a stock exhuast.
is it streetable, when youre not giving it? I dont want cops loving me off.

what nosie does it make under say 3000rpm?

you want a power gain, do what my buddy did, and what im going to do.

Where your cat should be put a "Y" type pipe. Put a "flange" in one of the holes, and the other hole goes back to the muffler and all. Whenever your racing, or want to hear that sound, take the flage off and youll be running open DP...then if your going to be in a well populated area with cops, stick the flage back in and boom. He even made a custom switch in the car to pull it off and put it on.

man open DP sucks ass....i actually lost power adn times when i took y exhaust off...then when i had the catback on...dont do it for gods sake

it makes no sound at around 3000 rpm, only under WOT and boost

I dissagree. I love my open downpipe, and gained a good bit of power running stock downpipe open as opposed to the full stock exhaust.

And, as for the sound, what decently fast car is quiet at WOT anyways?

Dude there is a limit, anyway. I ran the car at the track with the D/P disconnected from the 02 housing, ALOT OF POWER was opened it up, but the car sound like ass at WOT and idle, I would only do this at the track and at the track only. Its alot easier then swapping 02 housings. And you reap the same benefits. Then put the DP back on and you got a street legal car again! That easy!

well usually when I go to the track i like to know what i can run in street weight. i dont wanna unhook this take out that. but the only time i did go to the track i ended up spinning 2 bearings...i know i shifted right and didnt do anything too dump....im scared to go back on the new engine in light that the same thing will happen and i dont have the money to fix it. is that something to worry about or did it just happen because of the high milage?

Real men don't care how loud their car is.

I'd hate to see what some of you would do if you owned an old muscle car or street rod.
The noise, WAHHH WAHHH

;)

Lets not turn this into a debate about my man hood. I used help my friends work on thier cars, a 66 Camaro SS and a 71 Chevelle. They were loud as anything. But loud with a purpose, through a complete and legal exhaust system. The car was loud because it was powerful, not because he cut a whole in the exhaust. An internal dump will work just as well as an external dump. And is more civil.

People that think things that are loud are a annoying. Like the idiot that lived in my old nieghborhood, always revving his d*mn Harley, every d*mn night. He wasn't even working on it. He and a couple of his friends would just stand around the bike and he'd rev it.

Whoa there big guy. That post was in fun, hence the winking-eye smiley at the bottom.

Don't take it so seriously.
