I have a 97 eclipse 420a. It has 130,000 miles on it and I want to turbo it. I runs ok now but the check light is on and it burns a little oil. Here are my questions to the 420a tuners out there.

1. Could I put a turbo kit on it now and run low boost without blowing it up?

2. What internals should I replace when I have my motor rebuilt?

3. Howell Automotive has a rebuild kit for $1000 is that the kit to buy?

4. If I supply the parts what is a good price for a machine shop to rebuild my motor?

Ok here ya go.

1. yes you could turbo it now and run low boost. Mine had over 100k on the engine, with the light on and i turbo'd . Im running alot more boost than you would be cause im dumb.

2. If you rebuild and want to turbo , replace the rods/pistons. Forged parts.

i would fix the problems before modifying anything. bottom end rebuild and a ported head would be my first things to do.

seriosly if your going to rebuild it do it but rebuild it with the internals for turbo setup.... rods/pistons/cams/gears/and renew all the wires/hoses. so that you know for a fact that you are with out holes or leaks. then when you had the shop rebuild your motor with these parts have the turbo put on by a well known sorce and prepare for trial and error.... youll see...

I have an oil leak too. But going to fix it when in month or two. First try to use a thicker oil 20-50 Maxlife. It helps engines with over 75k and seal micro leaks in the engine. Try that, if it was works than turbo it. But I highly recommend to check the oil levels occasionally. :dsm:

I bought a hahn kit. i would recommend hahn over star it has alot better reviews for turboing. And comes with detail directions and help. But if you want to save a few hundred then go for star :dsm: GL :thumb:

Nothing wrong with the STAR kit. I love it. I was a little unimpressed with the amount of OEM parts that come with the HAHN kit. Not bashing HAHN at all.
