I own a 97 Eclipse RS and I’ve had it for 2 years now. I want to make the car faster and all cuz I got bored of how, well slow, it is and I wanna make it faster. I know it’s better to get a GST or GSX but I’ve always wanted to turbo a car and keep the RS I got.

My direction is to turbo it but what’s a good setup to make the 420a actually fast? I read some forums but I couldn’t find one that was recent or from this year, they are all from like 2009 and half of the parts they talked about aren’t even manufactured anymore.

If you want to turbocharge, it's far cheaper and easier to just buy a GS-T. You'll spend the same money buying (good) parts and installing them as you'll spend on a whole GS-T for the same power level, and the GS-T will be far more reliable and responsive to further modifications. There are a few mild upgrades you can do to the 420A to make it a bit more powerful N/A, but ultimately a lack of ECU flexibility kills any chance at making it 'fast'. Even getting 170whp out of it N/A costs a few thousand dollars these days, it's awful value.

Yeah my 420a was def a slow turd. I made up the difference for speed by making sure it was obnoxiously loud though.

For the amount of money and time to make 420 reliable and fast, take same amount and time and put into 4g63 and well the results will not be close.

My dad has a turbod 420 and it’s alright but nothing that blows you away. But still a fun car to cruise in.

these engines will hold up to 7psi of boost reliably from what i've read which should put you around the 230-240hp range, if you plan on running low boost it'll be fine, just make sure you have good fuel pressure.

You'll still need to upgrade the pump and injectors though. Stock fuel system is capable of around 150whp. And best of luck to your ringlands.

Been interested in the same project and came across this video from a year ago. Job doesn't look too intensive if you have prior knowledge
