I have a Megan o2 housing that needs to be machined flat. It doesn't sit flat against the turbine housing.

I tried flat filing it like jafro does in this video (he had the same problem I have now), but I was filing for hours with little diffference made. Can a machine shop do it? At this point I'd rather pay $40 than file for countless more hours.

You could probably do it well enough with a belt sander, man. A shop could probably set it up and cut it, but that would cost more than just hitting it with a belt sander. Hold it to the sander for a few seconds, turn it 180* and hit it again until the entire surface is uniform, then check it, then hit it some more if necessary.

Maybe your file is just worn out. He probably had an hour or so of filing in that video.

Really depends how bad it is. If it usually isn't to bad i have sheets of sandpaper on a slab of granite countertop to sand them true.

Hmm, well, if you dont know anyone who owns a belt sander, I certainly wouldnt buy one. I bet ya if you went to a shop and asked if they could hit it with a belt sander for ya that they would do it for much less than 100.00 though.

Hah, so I'm not the only one with those bunk pieces, am I. First one I had wasn't welded properly and contained a hole in the inner recirculation tube weld. Replacement had a warped flange.
Know what I did? Torqued it down anyway and let the gasket soak up the difference and it hasn't leaked yet. Was going to square it up but it would have taken too much time to actually remove it, so fk it.

Find a nearby metal shop or something and ask them to sand it flat.

Any sales on belt sanders? They're a huge benefit to have regardless.

I also have an ebay tubular o2 that has a warped big flange which I have not installed. I wondered if torque on the bolts would pull it flat to the turbine housing, may try it since sordid says he has not leaked yet. By the way, there is a coupon for 59.99$ belt sander at harbor freight, save 40$!, LOL. Maybe worth buying just to have.

Heads by Drew machined my stock exhaust manifold, I would think he could do the o2 housing . He only charged me 50 bucks . He has the machine to do that. Good luck man!

Erik. I have a large stationary belt sand we use for surfaces ALL the time. I just did my T3 housing this weekend for my 14b. I need to replace the belt again but, you can come by and clean it up if you have not made arrangements yet.

Got this problem fixed, the large belt sander did the trick amazingly. Here's a pic of how bad the problem was, you could actually see light through the o2 housing/turbine housing if you held it up:

After about an hour of putting all the surfaces on biglady112's large belt sander everything was perfectly flat. We did the o2 housing, turbine housing and exhaust manifold just to be sure. I got it all bolted back up and no exhaust leaks now. :thumb:

Totally flat and smooth:
