hey hey,

wanted to see which would have the best performance and reliability:
Evo III O2 housing
Punishment Racing O2 recirculated
Swain-coated Megan Racing O2 recirculated from STM

I'm running an Evo III with an Evo III motor, it's a DD so goal is to just max out the Evo III. The downpipe will be flanged to match the stock or Evo III O2 housing.

thanks!

Go with either the PR (amazing products) or the Megan Racing o2 housing. I used a MR housing a a couple years without issues. Having either one coated will make it much better for holding in heat.

The E3 housing will require your down pipe flange to be re welded at a new angle to fit properly.

I'm in the same boat and doing endless reviews and searches on what ones better. I think its between PR and MR but PR is 75 more but is lifetime warranty! So i don't know if thats the deal breaker or not!!! I'll be keeping an eye on this thread for more feed back.

Just so I have a say but I'm leaning towards the PR as I'm not worried about money so the warranty helps.

If it makes a difference, I went from the MR or a PR MVS o2 housing, it's damn amazing and quite better craftsmanship than the Megan piece.

What's MVS? Is that the mild steel housing? I think I'm gonna get the PR aswell a few more reviews will decide!

And to the op I hear loads of good things in the evo3 and PR but remember it might not line up as people have already been told! It's upto you if you want stainless or cast for looks.

The MVS housing I have is a SS version. It's a special designed o2 housing that has the TiAL MVS waste gate attached.

Thanks for the input guys! I did a lot of searching before I posted this, but just didn't see too many long-term opinions on the tubular O2 housings and heard that sometimes they'll crack. Understand that I'll need a reflanged downpipe for the Evo III (which I have with a flex section that might need to be replaced, but only stock O2 housing right now LOL). So I either need to get the Evo III O2 housing ### of my dp or another 3" dp, which then I'll just upgrade the O2 housing while I'm at it.

The Evo III ExtremePSI has for $110 shipped
The PR I can get around the same price used
The Megan STM has the Swain-coated one for $190

I'm willing to do either, just trying to find the combo w/best performance :) Anyone know how much it'd be for the Swain coating of the other 2 O2 housings?

Cracked o2 housings? Where did you read this?

Look on Swains page for pricing, they have it all listed.

I'm happy with my megan o2 housing. I just wouldnt pay $200 for an o2 housing at all that does the same as the MR o2 housing. Now if I was running a tial WG on the o2 housing, I surely would go with PR. I like their MVS o2 housing a lot.

Oh i see Haha I'm not that far in my tuning stages yet so I've not even looked at wastegates!

Also to the OP where did you read this about cracking? I have read the flanges can warp and fitment issues but the owners fault not PR's fault. Other then that I've never heard of them cracking! Cast maybe, stainless hardly!!! Plus you can just belt sand the flanges down level so not hard to correct, and
Remember if you buy used PR you don't get the warranty as its only for the original buyer! Just thought you should know that.
Do you really suffer from that much heat you want them coated? Why not just wrap it then instead or don't you like the look of wrap?

My mistake here, read about tubular manifolds cracking and assumed that O2 housings would have the same issue. Also read something about some bad welds?

Of these three, which offers the best performance (flow? or is backpressure a better measurement here)?

yes the manifolds can crack but only if there built badly! ive had mine on for many years now and its not got any problems!

as to your question on back pressure well you don't want any, being a turbo you want it to flow as fast out as possible, so no back pressure needed. so that being said the bigger the better.

i cannot tell you whick one flows better then others im afraid as i havent even got one yet, im just about where you are at to be honest and looking around. but i'd say the stainless systems from MR and PR will flow better as cast will slow it down slightly being it has a non smooth finish inside.

i'm going with the PR just for the warranty plus it looks a little better prep work them the MR. (being a welder and fab myself i look at these things) but i dont want to build an o2 housing my self as i just dont have the time scale for that section!

hope its helped you on your way to finding the right o2 housing for yourself :thumb:

Id go with the evo 3 or PR. All of PR's stuff looks good. Megan racing will always be an ebay brand to me. Ebay shit thats passes wong's 1/2 second look over gets labeled megan, everything else is sold off cheap.
