How did i loose?

So i got a question. i have a 1994 Laser fwd turbo. with a T4 turbo and kit. and i was running on the highway the other day and a new jetta GLI pulled up and i raced him and i lost. should i have lost this race? i dont have much done to my car. but i do know that the GLI and the GTI both have about 265 hp and those cars are heavy. i have wieght reduction, and i got apexi exhaust, ground control coilovers and unorthodox cam gears i have Drift style body kit(big whoop) and i also have pistons (came in the car dont know what kind the guy befor me had them installed). And i reved and starting out from about 70 mph we hit it and some how he beat me by a cars length, HOW? are volkswagons actually good? i didnt know that they made stuff for the new GLI jetta already? idk. he must have had mods. his car sounded awsome though.

Yes you should have. You dont have much done. You have a T4 with not much done. Do you have injectors? Fuel Pressure Regulator? Anything to tune those with like a AFC and Logger or DSMlink? What about Exhuast? Intake, Boost controller? You tuned?

You need to do the supporting mods before you do the turbo mod, without them, its useless.
