How Many Throw Out Bearings did you Break Installing Yours?

I'm on number 2. First one, I dropped the transmission 3 inches onto wood, the clutch fork flew forward, and the throw-out bearing flew out. Broken clip.

My buddy special ordered 3 because he knew what was going to happen :beatentodeath:

Why are the clips so fragile? Does the T/O even hold pressure? The clips are there to prevent spinning, right?

I'm tying the clutch fork to the case, so it keeps the T/O bearing in all of the way so no more accidents happen!

0....

Ive done 3 clutch swaps in my eclipses, no problems ever.

i also did countless installs no problems. if it takes 3 to get it right pay someone to do it for you

I've probably replaced over fifty clutches and never had that problem, nor have I ever heard of this. I did cut my finger once while hoisting an rx7 transmission from the floor to over my head by hand. It sucked because even though I was getting showered in my own blood, I had to stay the course until I could get some bolts started.

I always use a transmission jack from now on.

Pretty much every throwout bearing has some sort of tab to hold it to the fork. The reason the little tabs are there is entirely for installation. Its been a while since I've done this tranny but tabs, molded wires w/e they are all the same. There should be no reason that the fork would jump forward and pop your throw out bearing off. Make sure that you have a level surface for the tranny to be jacked up on and a little trick I learned is to slap a bottle/scissor jack between the motor and firewall area to push the motor over and stab the tranny in place! Actually I watched a guy manuever this unit for over half an hour in place but takes me minutes with this trick.
