i have a fresh rebuilt motor and i had to put the timing belt on it. i must have made a mistake because when i had the crank timing mark lined up the cam gears wasnt lining uo right...the intake cam was on point but the exhaust cam was about 1/2 to 1 inch above lining up with the intake cam gear mark. i noticed this after i tried to crank the car but it wasnt getting spark (due to another reason) so i never actually got it to crank up while it was off timing. so i put the car back in timing and now got her to crank up fine. im kinda worried that i bent a valve but im not sure. is there any way i can tell without doin a compression test(dont have the tools)? i have the valve cover off now and i was checking out the lifters but im not exactly sure what i need to be looking for. anybody know anyway to check without removing the head?

yea i figured that as well but since its been rebuilt, it has alot of chatter comes from the lifters bleeding out or pumping up. i havent really ran it long enough to clear that up yet.

The cylinders with bent valves with have low compression.

A leakdown test is a quick way to figure it out. Thats how I found out which valves werent seated right on my head. I had to get a 3 angle valve job.

don't think that much off will cause any damage, but you would have heard a good noise when that piston came up and kissed the valve.

take the head cover off and check your valves that way for one lifter will be terribly loose if a valve was bent since it didn't come up all the way when it tried to close.

You could also do the compression test, for a belt valve will cause a cylinder not to hold any compression.

Pull the spark plugs and use a flashlight, if you see any shiny crescents on the pistons, they touched the valves.

If you have the valve cover off, look for a loose rocker, a rocker that got kicked off or a compressed valve spring with the cam lobe away from the rocker for that valve.

Line up all your timing marks.
Then stick 1/2in breaker bar and spin it to make sure none are bent.
Then proceed with compression test.

i pulled the valve cover....no kicked off rockers or decompressed springs when they aren't supposed to be. im goin to to a compression test when i get the tool in for safe measures. thanks!!
