sorry don't mean to double post, but this should have been here in the first place, doh... QUESTION- how do you tell if there is a rear lsd on the car?

Quaife makes them for every type of DSM(4g63/t/awd/420a), but expect to pay $1200-$1400
Info:
http://www.optionimports.com/quaife.html
Price list/ applications:
http://www.quaifeamerica.com/differentials/diff_apps.htm

For the price you also get a life time warranty which applys to drag and autox'ing. Sounds good to me.

EDIT:
"Effective June 15, 2001, Quaife America will no longer replace broken differential housings on 76.309.155 (9B1) Center Differentials at no charge.
We have found that, due to design constraints of the transmission, the original equipment third gear that meshes with the center diff housing is prone to failure under extreme loading in modified vehicles. When this gear fails, it may cause the gear teeth ground on the Quaife housing to break, necessitating replacement. The Quaife Center Differential made for the Mitsubishi Eclipse/Talon AWD Turbo models are built from very high strength, case hardened material. However, even the superior construction of the Quaife Differential may fail under these situations, under no fault of the Quaife product.

Since this type of failure is not a fault of the Quaife product, we will not replace a broken housing that is due to this type of occurrence free of charge under the Quaife lifetime warranty policy. We will, however, replace the housings at a specially arranged price that covers our manufacturing costs.

All other components of this differential remain fully covered under our limited lifetime warranty.

For more info, contact our tech department at (949) 240-4000."

I bought a rolling 92 eagle talon six bolt that needs a turbo. But I am doing the manual tranny swap on it while I build up the motor.

Did the 1992 6bolt AWD Automatics have a LSD rear end? If not, which year car do i want to get a manual tranny/transfercase and rear end from? Will i need different rear axles too? (I think i do just double checking)

If it has an LSD, there should be a sticker somewhere on the car, either on the differential or on the inside of the door sill that says that it's equipped with it. Mine's a 95 and has an LSD warning on the door sill, but this may not have been a dealer/factory option.

Ok mine has a warning "This car is equipped with a vicious bla bla bla" deal on it on the inside of the door. Says not to do this and that while its in gear and stuff. so ig uess its lsd then :p

I have a 92 awd turbo auto and it is a lsd . But that doesnt mean yours is . I have read somewhere that if it has ABS it will not come with this option. For some reason you couldnt get both . I think its written in my hanes manual or on club dsm faq page. I will try to locate that info.
but it should be inside your door seal red and white sticker. Saying LSD

Thats what my sticker is, yay for lsd... So this was not a standard option? I will have to search and search for a manual rear end with lsd? or is it not as bad to get a non lsd rear end?

BTW: I dont have abs, and yeah mine is lsd... Bummer that Im not staying auto :p

I had my Haynes manual handy and couldn't find anything about LSD's in it at all. It mentioned the rear diff, but only regarding replacing it and servicing it. Interesting.

My sticker is bright orange, btw. The lighting was all weird the day that I took that pic. :)

Autos arent so bad but you must install a big fregin tranny cooler if you want them to survive . Also a ipt tuning shift kit . It is a must. My car has gteched 0-60 in 4.7 with the stock 14 b . but it had 255 lph fuel pump, poleyurathane motor mounts, 3 inch down pipe ,
3inch intake inlet pipe and one heck of a hacked maf from a 5 speed . pushing 20 psi .

Your cams are smaller and your ecu is tuned diffrent than a 5 speed you know . The auto was made to make lower end torque 5 speed cars were made to have more top end.

The automatic rear ends also have a diffrent gear ratio in them from a manual one. At least that is what i was told by mitsubushi grave yard when i was asking about buya 4 bolt for my car and all they ahd was an automatic one. So you might want to buy a rear end out of a 92 -94 manual transmisson car for yours.

Unless it has been swapped out with a 92 and up...no you dont.
They started having LSD's during mid 1992. Around the same time as they started doing the 7 bolts I would think. The rare cars are the stock 6/4 combo only available in 92. 6 bolt/4 bolt.
I'm under the impression that from 92-94 they had the 4 bolt rear end. I know for sure they have them in about half of the 92's.

No..

LSD was an option for 90/91. For 91 you either had ABS or LSD. Look underneath your car on the rear diff's sticker. IF you see VISCIOUS LSD you've got one.

Like Morpherex said this is incorrect. Prior to the '92 models you couldn't have LSD and ABS together, only one or the other or neither since they were options.

All 92+ AWD cars came with the 4 bolt rear diff, the 90 and 91 cars used the 3 bolt rear diff. There are LSD versions of both the 3 and 4 bolt diffs. what changed mid year in 92 was the engine switch from a 6 bolt to a 7 bolt.

If the car came with rear LSD there is a orange sticker on the driverside door frame and the diff sticker says Viscous LSD.

Steve

Yup, 90+91 cars came iwth either abs or lsd. I'm lucky to have the lsd and seeing that nice orange sticker brings smiles, just have to get ready for a 4 bolt rear diff swap in the future.
