How Can I Tell If I Have An LSD? [Merged 7-8]

sorry don't mean to double post, but this should have been here in the first place, doh... QUESTION- how do you tell if there is a rear lsd on the car?

Are you sure that this is an original rear end? Do you have LSD sticker on your door jam?

yup sure do. To be honest All the the cars I have worked on that had abs had lsd's. Well at least they have the orange sticker that says they do.......duno

I had to look it up in my old brochures . 90 AWD definitely did not have the ABS, but rear LSD was standard. 92 shows ABS as an option, that does help with the '91.

Does anyone have ’91 brochure? Now, I must know for sure .

my gf's 93 had abs and the rear lsd, her 90 talon had no abs and the lsd, i know of 3 other 90 talons with the lsd.

also according to an old motor trend article, all 1ga talons came stock with the limited slip and all season tires where as the eclipses came with more performance oriented tires and had the lsd as a $800 option. just quoting the article here i'm wwd so i wouldn't know really

As far as I know lsd means both tires spin right?? And possy and lsd are the same correct?? Maybe I am wrong but I know my '99 fwd spins both tires. What I have been told is 2 tracks=lsd and when it is wet my whole front end goes back and forth like lsd.

Can anyone clarify for me? Thanks

unless you've put one in there its not an lsd. no fwd ever had an lsd factory as far as dsm's are concerned.

Thanks for confirming this for me. I guess I am not staring to loose it (yet? ).

The explanation that I remember was that 91 ABS computer didn’t know how to deal with rear LSD feature. Supposedly they fixed this issue in ’92 and started to offer both of those options.

However, GVR4’s have the same ABS brain as ’91 DSMs and they are also not meant to be used with LSD (the reason why GVR4s were never offered with LSD). A few people have converted their Galants to LSD while keeping ABS and didn’t have any problems. Of course, that is those things that can be just fine until you do some risky maneuver and get into an accident… Or this could show you just how ineffective our VC LSD really is .

When I back out of a parking space, then start moving forward, there is a noise coming from the rear end that I can feal through out the car. Was wondering if it was not just the lsd or if I have bigger problems

I thought all 2G's had a rear LSD but apparently some didn't, Mine has the sticker on it still that says Viscous LSD.

It's not the LSD, if present.

come to think of it my mechanic said my driveshaft needed to be realligned, that is probly it, . Any ways, about the lsd. If my car never had one would it benefeit more from a rear lsd or a center lsd? And how killer are these things with all three lsd's, I can only imagine, .

That's a really in-appropriate way of checking if you 2G has an LSD. Since the t-case itself could have been changed 10 times over, and since the t-case has nothing to do with your REAR-end it does not contain any markings in regards to your car's LSD.

If you do look underneath the car, you have to do so all the way from the back bumper and look at the back of your rear-differential. You will see a little plaque that either says "LSD" or something else if it is NOT lsd.

Hehe, well, just wanted to make sure he checks the rear-differential NOT the transfer case, as they are two different things. The transfer case is somewhere underneath the middle of the car and attaches to the transmission, whereas the rear-diff is right between the two rear-tires. Just wanted to clear it up, thats all.. no hard feelings
