holy crap never replace your oil pan

So this morning i replaced my leaking oil pan and return line, and let me tell you this thing was a bi*** to do on your own. took about 3 hours and a bunch of sweat and dirt. never do it on your own things a bi*** rather woulda paid $100 for labour to get it done at a shop.

I'm doing just that right now calan and i completely agree, chasing the infomous turn parking lights on and blow your 15a tail fuze . Dash time for 3 hrs already. And such a pesky bi*** lately.

If you don't have some blood in your oil and some oil in your blood, you aren't doing it right.

And... I'll trade a hundred oil pan swaps for anything that involves crawling under the freakin' dash for hours at a time.

I agree,

I've had my dash in and out of my car multiple times doing wiring, pulling harness and tucking everything away. Got to say though, changing the oil pan is far easier when you just pull the engine.

Amen, F*UCK wiring under the dash and tweaking your back for hours while soldering with a flashlight hanging outta ## mouth! , hate that shit worse than anything. got a refresher course on it not too long ago. Much rather be under the hood.

I am dropping my oil pan right now. I must admit that although I did it recently, I am now rather aware of what is involved. OP just made me aware of it.

I am making sure that I do this job right so I don't have to do it again. (Well I always try to do things right when I can).

I think its a bit more a of a pain on an AWD. I don't consider it a pain, but overall I think that I will be on this quite a bit more than 3 hours. I am a slowsky though since I enjoy it overall. I Ziploc and label everything and take my time like a snail.

As far as dash wiring...I love that and might or might not prefer that to this.

I did that for a living though, so maybe that makes the difference.

I think that knowing every little thing that I must do and what could possibly go wrong adds to this job for me. I know that if not done right and with the correct bolts, the return lines to the pan can leak. I will be using Permatex The Right Stuff like I always do when tearing it apart again isn't in the cards. Dropping the T-Case and support adds to the time taken. Also, refilling the T-Case (since it needs to be changed anyways) adds to the time taken but I am fine with taking a while and relaxing.

Amen - at my size, with big ass hands to boot, even simple jobs like soldering in a WB for logging feel like a gymnastic event.

I have done both power steering rack and an AWD swap. I'd do a rack over an AWD swap any day.

Also, F*ck working under the dash.

Off topic, but this is an amazing screwdriver. Everyone should own one, because it's awesome and and fantastic and cooler than pickles.

it's a great screwdriver. Look at the way I had to tighten to manifold to the turbo
