holes next to sprark plugs?

Does anyone know what the threaded holes are right next to the big holes for the spark plugs are for? There's 1 next to each plug, and 2 extra next to the number 1 piston, same size as the spark plug cover bolts, are they supposed to be plugged or open?

This must be with the valve cover off and the valve cover holes. There is a threaded hole at each cylinder for the small gaskets around the spark plug holes.

These? These are the inboard mounting holes to bolt the VC to the head. Those center mounting points are what keeps the center of the VC tight to keep oil from entering the plug wells.

Those are to mount the valve cover to the cylinder head.

Yeah you shouldn't have any holes unplug next to the spark plugs does are. To hold down the valve cover unless your talking about the ones for the spark wire cover.

When you tighten those inner bolts DO NOT tighten them up too much or you will crack your valve cover.

Those are exactly what i was talking about, so they all thread from the valve cover down into the block?

No, They go from the VC to the head.

A little more information:

In Pauls picture. The far left (two) holes secure the main valve cover gasket. The smaller inner four help seal the spark plug well gaskets. Without these bolts, you may see a lot of oil down in the spark plug wells.
