So i plan on purchasing a new set of tires for my evo 8 wheels pretty soon here to complete my summer build. I have been looking at a few different tires, but would like some input and was wondering if anyone has run these tires before and what they think of them. I am going to be running a 235/45r17 tire. here are the tires i've been looking at.

  • Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110 $108 each

  • Nitto NT 555 Extreme Performance $126 each

  • Yokohama S.drive $133 each

  • Bridgestone Potenza RE760 Sport $157 each

I can purchase a warranty through discount tire which covers any damage to the tire and they send a replacement

I care a little about looks, but i want them to perform very well. These are going on a street car that will see alot of dry pavement with occasional rain. Of course im not going to be racing around in the rain, but i do not want a tire that is going to spin before i even hit boost when it gets a little wet outside.

On a side note, i just mounted and balanced a set of the nt555r's for my buddys gt500 and they grip like a mofo on dry pavement but get a little squirley when its wet out

Also, how are these for a street car. Don't get me wrong i love cornering just as much as i do going fast in a straight line. I just don't want to drop 700 bucks on a set of tires that i can barely drive in the rain.

I bought a set for my GSX and a local guy has them in his GSX and loves them to death. Neither of us are really defined as more than a daily driver, seeing the track occasionally, I guess.

i just read up on the nt05 and everyone says the dry performance is AMAZING but they are complaining about the tread life. This car is going to see alot of street time so i am not trying to replace a set of tires after 7000 miles.

Tread life is all about the driver. They are at 15,000 miles on that local GSX and still have plenty of life on them.

yeah, i completely forgot about that haha. Im a little out of it tonight. The car is going to see a good amount of highway and city driving. Along with the occasional races with them. What tire pressure are you running with these, since people say they do not like higher tire pressures.

The main thing is keeping an eye on the tires and making sure that you are not over/under inflating (you can tell by how the tire is wearing). Also, people that complain about tread life probably are using RWD vehicles and have these tires on the rear. You should get a good long life out of them. (I get 15k+ miles out of 555R's and they are always on the rear of my cobra, meaning they aren't able to be rotated... The 555R's also have a lower treadwear rating at 100, instead of 200).

Dunlop Direzza Z1 Star Specs. You can even get them them in 245/40/17 and they'll fit nicely as long as you aren't stupid lowered.

I love these tires. Great in the dry. Great in the rain. The only downside I've seen so far is that they get a little slick when they're hot. But even then, it's such a minor complaint that I debated on even mentioning it.

Go to an autox and see what everyone is running. I bet almost half the street tire field is running Star Specs.

hmmm...so when the star specs heat up, they loose a little bit of grip? Let me compare prices between the 2 and also read a couple reviews. I'm not saying that your information about them is bad or wrong, just want to see what some other people have to say about the tire.

I can't speak for any of those tires except for the Ventus V12's. My buddy has them on his 300zx TT and he auto crosses and high speed auto crosses it and they are awesome, they hold the road very well. He can hold a 110* hairpin at 55 mph and a high speed bank at 140mph. I don't know if you've looked at the BFG KDW-2 at all but i'm goin to suggest it. They are a little more coin that the ones you're looking at but they are an outstanding tire.

haha yeah, well for any good summer tire, they aren't going to be that good in the snow. But honestly im not worried about that because i will most likely end up getting another set of tires for the winter.

I've beat the $$$$ out of the Hankook V12's, they are a very nice, very gripy 280AA tire for the money. I like them as much my last set of falken 615's that are $185 a tire. I drive mostly mountain Pass's and tight canyons roads, Tread ware is pretty good too.

im pretty sure you already bought the tires but i just found this and had to wonder why michelins' werent on the list. i mean seriously why were the ps2's not mentioned. and just in case someone finds out i dont rock these its just because i couldnt past up getting my 245r-16 yk520 for $80/tire and knowing they come with a 60,000 mileage warranty.:thumb:
