HKS SSQV (v1) flow enough air for larger turbo?

Just wondering about this. I am probably trading off my large 44mm valved BOV (no idea what brand never seen onebefore) and putting the HKS back on.. i could care less if it's loud or not and mine never was anyway, i just didn't thnk it by-pased enough air to keep compressor speed up. I'mdowngreadingfrom the 6776 (t67) turbo to something in the hx40 range for a compressor wheel mounted to an hx34 turbine in H1c housing.

Will this be enough of a BOV to get me the results i'm after? I cna't afford a tial Q so please don't go there unles you're pitching in with me on it.

I just like how it can't reallyleak that easily and that I'vehad great luck with it inthe past on smaller turbos.

I have one on my 02 WRX (almost stock). It is loud. So far i think the BOV is ok but i would rather have something that moves more air. I am planing on replacing my HKS with a Turbosmart compact series so i can properly recirculate the intake. If i where you i would go with something that moves about the same air as a Tial Q or the Turbosmart Race Port BOV'S.

What i have moves a LOT of air and that's why it's on there, But being that i'm doing some trading off and swapping to a smaller turbo i think i like the fact that the HKS's don't leak nearly as often as other types due to how they operated with pressure holdingthe valve shut from behind

Thing is the HUGE FMIC i'm getting (already have) is sorta conditional onme hooking him up with my BOV (i mean I can run 2 if i need or upgrade to a tial later but this is a 2k dollar core from gredddy!!!) ad it's HUGE

I had an HS SSQV version 3, and it did not release enough air on my 20g. I am seeing 52 lbs a min on my 20g, and the HKS would stay open about 3 seconds releasing all the air. It did not move enough air, so I went with the Ebay Tial knockoff 50mm (as all the reviews are great) and it works perfect.

Cant do that all the time. Even daily driving, it was open for way too long, longer than it should.

It did not move enough air, so I went with the Ebay Tial knockoff 50mm (as all the reviews are great) and it works perfect.

Strange, I ran the SSQV on my 3052 for ~5 yrs, 20-30psi, without any issues. I was seeing a properly calibrated 52lb/min as well. Under full boost, always blew off as expected. I swapped mine out just because I was tired of the "flutter" you'd get at almost all the time, other then WOT (ran re-circulated).

On 28lbs we couldn't get it to stop leaking and this was on just a 16g flowing 48lbs a min. Lets go halves on that tial

in my opinion, SSQV will not surge, and it holds better under load. I took apart SSQV and look at the design, the diaphram will seal tighter if you put more boost. I had mine for over 2 years, and still holds as new.

My HKS SSQV started leaking when I turned the boost up passed 24psi, problem was it was slamming open/closed under full boost and creating compressor surge. By looking at the overall "theory" and design of how the HKS SSQV actually works I didn't suspect the bov, I thought it was the turbo working out of its efficiency range.

If you look at this log, Glenn, you can see the compressor surge by looking at the logged boost.

I was looking on eBay for the tial knockoff but can't seem to find it is it still available?

Not the one I have, but I bought mine about 6-8 months ago from a guy who was fighting a lawsuit from Tial for copyright infringement, so idk if that has something to do with it or not.

How do you guys who are saying it doesn't move enough air know it doesn't move enough air? Sounds like a guess to me. And once the BOV hits that initial vacuum spike and cracks open its going to stay open for as long as your not on the throttle in vacuum.

I have a V4 BOV on my car and I'm running an HX40 at 22psi. I have no flutter, and no problems.

Before this BOV I ran a Type-S with no venting problems. Only problem was that it leaked when utilizing both of the vacuum ports, which is needed for smooth non flutter operation.

I realized something was wrong with mine when it was staying open for 3-4 seconds at full boost to relieve the pressure. . . Maybe it wasent opening all the way, I dont know, but I love my tial.
