I have a 92the laser Rs awd turbo.....when I get on it in first gear I boost 14lbsu but at 5kthe it'd like the rev limiter hits and every other gear I can hit 6kbank before this happens.....where do I start to check for problems?
 
Sounds like a clogged fuel filter or possibly a clogged catalytic converter.
 
I can easily roll on throttle with no boost and run 6-7kit but as soon as I boost it hits rev limiter...just falls on its face and stutters.... only under boost though...car has 106119 miles as well
 
Would I have a leak at 14psi? I've never done one I just got it today, my first turbo car...I know my way around a car very well but know nothing about boosted cars...how do I do a leak check
 
Do you have a wideband? And is the car stock?

I had the same issue, got a wideband and the car was running very lean.

I also had a clogged fuel filter and a pretty nice crack in my exhaust manifold.

If you still have any emissions junk take it off and throw it in the woods.
 
You can google what a boost leak tester is suposed to look like. Its basically another coupler, with a plug on the end. In the plug is a valve stem or some other valved pathway to add air.

You hook it all up, add air to your boost pressure level, and listen for leaks.

Using soap water helps a lot in pinpointing them.

Check for leaks at injecrot seals, Throttle body areas, and couplers/intercooler
 
My car is bone stock, I did delete converter today.....no air leaks...I am running an open air filter, how to I get ecumenical not to read to much air?
 
No wideband yet I will order one friday, and it is deft a fuel cit I bought a fuel filter today Imma try that first, money isn't an option just don't know where to start...

Can my fuel cut be from not having my coolant/temp sensor hooked up, or could it be from my mas being slightly crushes, not broke just the honey comb part is crushed kinda good, came off a wrecked car
 
As said previously, do a BLT and, odds are, you are hitting fuel cut due to overrunning the MAF. The combo of a boost leak and having a 1g MAF will cause this combo easily.

After you get the leak test done, check your plugs and regap them if necessary to around .028 or so but, I would not go over the recommended gap of .032.

Hook your coolant sensor up...surprised it even started... Get a working unhurt MAF...I am sure that is not helping matters. Do all the maint. on the car as well and do not assume the previous owner did it. Fix all leaks and get all belts changed as soon as you can unless there is documented work with date/mileage on the car.

Update!!!! Changed fuel filter, old one was clogged, hooked all temp sensors up and its working on the gauge now, fixed maf, new ngkall iridum plugs gaped at .032..still has fuel cut at 5k....anymore suggestions would be appreciated, will do another boost test tomorrow, exhaust is loose were I had the converter deleted...it rolls from aide to side could this remotely be a problem? Please help I love this car, I need to make it run good stock before I upgrade....

Im having the same issue on my 420a boosted.. i can rev out to rev limiter all the time but boost time it leans out after 5k...maybe your having the same issue i am having??
 
Yea it sounds like it, just wish I could fix it I really want to upgrade but I want it to run like it should stock first...
 
We need more info OP. What size turbo do you have? What are your supporting mods? Are you going off of the stock boost gauge? Are you saying that you can WOT to redline in every other gear besides 1st? Explain what you mean by redline. Does it bounce like the rev limiter, just won't go any higher, or does the car jerk and make "popping" sounds? Also, stock rev limiter is 7500 RPM so even 6k is shy of full engine speed.

It is completely possible that you are running out of fuel. 14psi is a bit more than stock and usually requires fuel upgrades depending on the turbo size. Boost leaks will affect performance as well, but they usually cause issues at any point when the turbo is boosting the engine. Not just redline like your describing. I would suggest a boost leak test at around 20psi and getting a real boost gauge (if you dont already) to see what your actually boosting at.
 
I am running off stock gauge, ill buy an aftermarket tomorrow... im tunning a stock tdo5h turbo, no upgrades at all ...minus a converter delete the add and it I go easy on throttle I can go 7k but as soon as I boost it has a real bad fuel cut, car falls flat on its face and stutters like a rev limiter....

I don't have much help for your specific problem, but just for the record, it's worth knowing that generally boosted cars don't really benefit from iridium plugs. Some even argue that they're worse. I forget the exact model that's most highly recommended on the forums, but a quick google search should answer it real quick.

Just thought I'd throw that out there for future info. Maybe save ya some money next time.
 
Yeah, the stock gauge is really just an airflow estimate so an aftermarket gauge would be good. But it sounds to me like you have a big boost leak somewhere. Give that a shot and see what you can find.
 
I checked everything with a homemade gauge and you tube know how, I didn't find any leaks at all....Imma try again tomorrow...do I actually check the turbo itself on a blt? If so should it hold steady pressure or leak off?
 
Take the iridium plugs out and junk them. Put you in a good set of copper plugs such as the stock ones and gap them at .028. The plugs you currently have are not good for the car.

The sputtering is basically from the iridium getting hot and creating a hot spot and causing detonation. Turbo cars are not the same as NA and must be treated as such.

If you are running more than stock boost, get a gauge and an a/f meter.

Keep your gap close to the minimum to make sure they will fire at higher rpms/compression.
 
Update!!! I unhooked the waste gate and I have o boost cut at wot, but it doesn't boost nearly as hard.. u think if I change it ill bene fine?

Ok 300 buck for a stock actuator or 299 for 16g or 20g with actuator which one is safer for a stock car, im slowly upgrading..plans on lots of upgrades later.....what should I do?
