HID help???

I have the black projector headlights with angel eyes, what im asking is will a 10000k hid kit hurt my headlights in any way? the headlights say on the back with a sticker, do not use hid bulbs.....well ive never seen or even heard of people using the hid kit in these headlights...so is it it safe to use hids or not? thank you!!

your projectors should be bright enough. i wouldn't think that the kit would hurt your head lights.

I have the same projectors and am also thinking about getting HIDs.

Yeahh...no. The beam is not bright at all. I mean we got what we payed for (ebay). That is why I too, have thought about HIDs.

The reason it says not to use HID's is because you're going to glare oncoming drivers. The projectors were most likely designed for halogen use only. HID's run cooler than halogens - melting the assembly is not the reason for the warning. The 10K you are referring to is the color of the output you are going to get, not the temperature of the bulb. Also, 10K is a very bad color range to get if you're upgrading for improved visibility... anything past 4K and you begin to lose luminescence. In some states, you can get pulled over for anything past 6K.

thanks for the info guys, also a group of buddys of mine, all have 10k, none have yet to be pulled over, so i think im good here oh, and using the hid's with the headlights i have, how would i wire those up along with the angel eyes? i dont want to put the hid lights behind the projector glass, i want it to where i can have the hids on with the angel eyes as well, so putting the hid's in where my high beams are supposed to be??? but im afraid if i do that, it will make the light much brighter, bc of the reflecting pieces in the headlight?? or does it really make a difference? thanks again for the information =)

Hey there OP,

Do your headlights come with H1s or H3s?

HIDs are designed to put out (a lot more) more lumens than standard halogen bulbs, so you have more light on the road, so you can see a lot better. True, HIDs do run colder and with less power than standard halogen bulbs, once they're warmed up. Upon ballast ignition, the whole system can pull close to 3x the wattage that your standard halogen pulls, so be prepared with the proper wiring harness, relays, and fuses, to power your HIDs. You will find people that say you can run your HIDs off your factory wiring, and they are right...for a little while. I've seen completely melted main harnesses because of wiring up HIDs to run on the factory circuit. I've also seen a car drive around with a factory powered HID system for three years and no issues yet, and these were both on 2g DSMs. Bottom line, if you run your HID system off your factory wiring, be prepared to accept a non running, or partly handicapped vehicle when the factory harness starts melting together and shorting out. It is such a better idea to buy/build a proper relay harness for the ballasts to connect to. Something like this:

I do not know a ton about the black Angel Eye style headlight, but I have the chromed Halo headlights, and I would assume they're designed the same way. HIDs will simply never work in the Halo rings, they are lit by a single LED on each ring, with no space to feed an HID bulb into them. You have to take the headlights apart to get at those LEDs, but you could effectively get a much whiter/bluer LED and wire it in.

If you're using your factory wiring, when your high beams are on, so are your low beams. The only way you change this is with a little wiring work. Since you want to have your angel eyes on with HIDs, the only way you accomplish this is by putting your HIDs in the projectors, or rewiring your lights. If you put the HIDs in the high beams, you will definitely be blinding people. The headlights themselves will not make more light, but it will take the light and shine it all over the place. These headlights are halogen designed projection/reflection housings, and are not going to display the light the same way they will with halogen bulbs. You will have massive glare issues, in the high beam reflectors for sure.

Not to mention, the HIDs will blot out any light your Angel Eyes are making, even if they are in the high beam reflector, rendering them invisible while your bulbs are on.

Bottom line, if you want to see your Angel Eyes, you just have to drive with the parking/running light feature, and if you want them to be a different color, you'll have to wire in a new LED (after dismantling the headlights).

It could be a little more uniform, but I think the cutoff is pretty nice considering, and I can see 1000% better at night. Interesting tidbit...I used to get flashed like mad with my halogens in my headlights, and with the HIDs in, after a month of driving at night, I haven't been flashed once...

ok thank you, I have the H1 bulbs, and in case you didnt know, i do have my angel eyes hooked up alone as parking lights, but my blinkers only come on when i have to turn, or so when i turn my turn signals on, so when i have my parking lights on, my angel eyes come on oh and yea i figured it wouldve been more blinding with them in my high beams instead of the projector glass, bummer oh well! hids are so nice to have

If you're not using the proper projectors, all HIDs will do is blind oncoming drivers. Also, for the best light output don't go above 6000K color temp.

No it wont hurt your projectors...i got 25k purple h.i.d...of course i got pulled over couple times..but my kit never messed up my projector.but if you put the h.i.d bulb in the projector side, the h.i.d aren"t as bright so i put them on my high beam side and my high beam on the projector side....

25K bulbs!!?? And putting the HID bulbs in the high beam reflector housing??

I highly advise against this. All those bulbs will produce is blue color, and little light. If you insist on having blue in your light output, try the 7K or 8k max.

Yeah the higher the k rating, the dimmer the light. Why not go with 3000k or 4000k and have bright lights?

Having almost straight blue lights, like the 10K will give you, will get you pulled over just as quickly. I currently have 5000K and it is pure white. I have had 6k, 7K, and 8K, and from experience I can tell you that the 8K was a huge difference in reduced light output from the 5K. My point is 10K will not give you much light. A good sacrifice for light while still having a blue-ish light is 7000k.

yeah, i know that, but around here we dont really need the real brightness, every street is lit up and i like the blue of the light
