Help with Intake system

Okay, so I've done some research and I've seen this posted before, so I'm just getting some clarification I guess.
Through browsing the forum, I found a couple things about the intake.

I was planning, on a Forced Performance intake and a Apexi, Greddy, HKS, or of course K&N airfilter. K&N is a bit out of my price range, so unless it's a lot better, I'd perfer the cheaper one.

Now, about the FP intake, I go to order (From MAperformance) and it gives me some options. BOV Return, I need this becuase it's the recirculation thing correct? and I'll always be running a recirculated BOV. Next, Coupler, I'm running a stock turbo so I need 2.25" turbo? I believe? and with all that added up, this 69.99 msrp turns into 149.99 without shipping to Alaska..

Should I just get a full intake system such as Dejon tool looks full, or ExtremePSI intake kit, or HKS intake kit, or Injen intake system.

It really depends on whether you ever plan on upgrading the turbo or not. If you don't, then just get the extreme psi kit or something similar to that.

i have never had a problem with anything ive ever bought from Dejon
very nice pipes, very good powder coating, very good fit

i also think the fp intake is a bit over kill for little turbos, not to mention it's pretty heavy

I would say go for dejon. Because right now i run a injen intake with k n fipk. It sits really far to the passenger fender. So why bad you ask. When I try to run a long route intercooler. It has no room to stuff intercooler pipes down that way.

I've just read a bunch about the Forced Performance intake being really good, so that's why I chose that. And I'm not sure about upgrading my turbo or not, I haven't actually decided yet. Plus the FP intake is cheap.

The dejon is pretty cheap, and looks a lot smaller. Will it show the same advantages as the FP would?

Does the intake actually have a preformance effect or is it just an appearence thing? I know in the Subaru world most of the aftermarket intakes tended to make them loss power. Do the DSM's respond well to them?

+1. I've heard plenty of people running these with zero issues and zero complaints. And at a fraction of the cost how can you really complain?

I would really only go with the FP if you planned on upgrading the turbo now or in the near future. Otherwise a cheaper eBay knockoff should be more than enough.

Go with the Forced Performance intake, the Ebay intakes have fitment issues and usually require slight modification. I've ran the Forced Performance and its an amazing intake, the best filter to compliment it would be the K&N FIPK filter. Hope this helps!

I would suggest going with a whatever intake pipe you can afford/prefer then getting a Short Route FMIC. It is unnecessary to get a stock SMIC pipe kit, then later upgrade to a fmic.

In all honesty you want to run the eBay intake if you are on he stock turbo. It's shown to have negative effects with turbulence and choking hen going from a huge pipe and necking down to 1/2 the size.

It'll be cheaper althought it's eBay, it'll suite you better now. Once you get a turbo with a larger opening then you would benefit more from the larger fp intake being 4".


Solid intakes are better for smooth airflow into the compressor wheel compared to the stock rubber intake that is ribbed. The ribs are causing turbulent air flow into the turbo.

I would only use either a K&N filter or Vibrant Performance filter. I like the vibrant filter due to having more open filter surface area due to having filter material at the top portion of the cone. The K&N filter has a rubber plate there instead.

For the rest of the intake trac, I would suggest saving up for a short route FMIC kit as mentioned above unless you plan to use a SMIC. The VRSF and Punishment Racing FMIC kits are quality and affordable. Both are short route and under $500 for the full kit.

Back to the OP - Check the classifieds on here, buy one used, you'll find a better deal than that.

I personally love my injen with the k&n fipk, looks badass and noticeable difference when it comes to spool time. I don't know what will happen when I get a front mount though. But I recommend the injen, I'm sure you can find one on here cheap

I recommend the FP intake pipe with the K&N filter. It has to have a 4" opening to fit onto the FP intake pipe and the K&N is $50. Plus its looks dead sexy.

well correct me if im wrong, but if it were an injen or dejon intake wouldnt it say it? i know my injen intake says it pretty big on the side . it could be an ebay knock off, they tend to look like the injen style.

Well, from what I've read, It's hard for me to believe that ebay intakes are better than the brand name ones? If someone could explain this, I'll look more into Ebay intakes. And, I'll explain a little more of my situation.

I'm starting my upgrade path with an intake and airfilter, my motor is a 95 eclipse turbo totally stock auto. So, money aside, I want to know what's the best airfilter/intake I can get that will benefit my car most.

Re read my post and if you want, search on the reasoning why intake pipes that are larger than the Reno inlet have lower performance than pipes with the same diameter as the turbo inlet.

The eBay pipe is molded after the injen pipe. It's cheaper because it does t say injen on it and it's quality isn't 100% as you may find a few pits in the metal. Remember, a pipe is a pipe. Why pay $200 for a pipe when you can get it for $50 and have it do the same thing.

If you want to spend more money go the expensive route because when and if you get a larger turbo you'll need a larger intake pipe to properly feed the turbo.

The last thing I actually upgraded was the intake pipe son my setup (look at profile) because I knew I would be wasting money on different intakes. I went from the stock intake on my stock and 16g turbo straight to a Dejon Tool 4" intake on my hx40.

Take it for what it's worth as youl realize buying things o ce is the best way to go.

Yeah I read your post and went to all 3 links already, and the ebay review didn't seem that great.

But from my understanding, buying a intake that's about the same size as my turbo would be best? so a 2.5" or 3" intake?

That would be correct. The pipe is still eBay but for the price and gains over the stock rubber pipe, it's not bad at all.

I've used the Extreme PSI Intake kit on my T25 and 14B with no issues. Only reason I won't use it with my 16G is because I'm now running speed density so I don't need to recirculate my BOV.

As I said, I bought the ebay intake. I would not even recommend going any other way. I have a 16g and I still dont think the intake is restrictive. Why spend over 100 when you can get a pipe filter and all hoses(dont use them they suck) for 50bucks shipped. Its just stupid to go any other way unless you want a custom cai but I dont think your ready for that.

Seriouls dude, you are paying for a name nits like shopping at Hollister vs Walmart. You can get a shirt at both places but one is a brand name so you pay $60 for a shirt there vs $10 for a 3 pack at Walmart

If you want to pay more then go ahead as it's your money. I wouldn't do it however unless you are never going to upgrade your turbo.


I only ever bought 1 intake pipe and it's a 4" pipe as my turbo has a 4" inlet. If I had to buy a pipe before this one I would have gotten the eBay one and I almost did but choose not to because that's $50 down the drain when I do the new setup.
