Hi Everyone!

I am not sure if this is the right forum regarding my car: 1996 Mitsubishi Eclipse 2G GS 4G63 N/A

First of all!
I am a COMPLETE NOOB when it comes to the Eclipse. Where I live I am one of the few people who owns this car. There are probably only 3 Mitsubishi Eclipse in the entire country.

Finding parts for this car is insanely painful especially with the Eclipse I have. The one I have is a GS with a 4G63 naturally aspirated engine. Now, wherever I go, it seems that a GS usually comes with a 420A engine (correct me if I'm wrong). It could be because this one was made for Europe.

I will of course provide a picture of the engine for reference!

Now, I hope some of you can bestow their wisdom upon me, regarding how to find the correct parts, since whenever I type in for example Mitsubishi Eclipse GS radiator hose the search result always shows parts that do not fit. However when I type in Mitsubishi Eclipse GSX radiator hose it shows me the correct part that fit...

Another question I have is how can someone modify this car, does anyone have any experience?
- Like what Bolt On parts fit and what should I look for?
- How do I chip tune my car?
- Like what tools and software is required and what is the best option for my car?
etc...

As you can clearly see from my not so straight to the point questions, I am very much lost.
Not many people want to help where I live. So I am basically forced to do everything myself. This is why ANY help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

You are correct. Europe NT is 4g63.

Many turbo parts interchange. Depends on what you're trying to do.

Your car likely doesn't have a chip. Some 95's do. You would have to open up the ECU to find out.
You're going to have to specify exactly what you want to do.
Are you looking to turbo the car?

I am not sure about adding a turbo to my car. Currently I am thinking of pulling out as much power out of the NA. Even though I might be disappointed at the end results. My initial goal was +50HP. Possibly unrealistic...

Again since I am a noob, here was my current list of ideas:
-Exhaust Manifold
-Intake Manifold
-Throttle Body
-Cold Air Intake
-Bigger MAF housing
-High Flow Cat or none at all
- Performance Clutch
- Brakes (calipers, discs, pads)
- Engine Bay Strut
- Sway Bars
and more...

Ideas I am not so sure about:
- Injectors??
- Iridium Spark Plugs

Then after I complete these Hardware mods I would try to find a dyno and do a little tune there.

If all of this is pointless I will probably just do the Turbo...
Now the only problem remains. How do I find parts/mods. What are the best places to look for (websites etc.)
Are there any compatible cars that I can take parts from that fit mine?

The main purpose of this thread is to find help with the Euro version of my GS:
What fits?
Best options?
Where to look for?
What to avoid etc...

Hope this clarifies some things.
Thank you!

I’m not too familiar with the Euro 2Gs but your setup (Just visually at least) looks similar to the Galant I pulled my DOHC 4G64 swap from. Not exactly the same but similar.

I mixed parts with 1G/2G/Evo 1-3/VR4 cars and I’ve also made things. I’m currently about to go into work but i can explain more later in the day

Alright this is interesting. The other day a guy approached me and said how he also owns a Euro Eclipse 2G. He managed to install a turbo and told me the same thing how you can take parts from some Galants.

I never understood why do they make so many versions of a car. Like European versions, American versions etc.
Just makes things messy...

Also thank you in advance for any info you may provide.

I have a EU Spec 2G too, I bought it in 2017, and I was basically in the same shoes as you. I learned a lot from this site, and asked many questions when I got into it deeper.

The mods you wrote are good mods (I also like that you included handling an braking upgrades). You can gain some power with it, you can get more power out of a N/A engine but that requires more custom work. I am not that familiar in N/A tuning, I turbo swapped it. For turbo swapping you can mostly look at GS-T parts (Factory turbo trim level) or Galant, or some Lancer EVO parts will fit too. Also there is a lot of aftermarket parts you can get in here too, it really only depends how deep do you want to get into modifying the car.

As for the chip tune, there are not many options with the N/A ECU, a turbo ECU is better in this regard, there are some ECUs that can be upgraded to be fully programable.

If you are looking for parts there are still some guys who offer parts on the german e-bay: https://www.kleinanzeigen.de/s-mitsubishi-eclipse/k0
or you can try any of your local tuning/racing shop, they still have parts if you search for 'Eclipse' or '4G63'. I usually order from here: https://races-shop.com/ (they are located in Slovakia, they might be a bit too far for you)

Much of this has to do with manufacturing costs and the regulations for each region. For example, it may be much more expensive to put a Chrysler 420-A into a European-market car due to trade agreements and tariffs. It may be that "DSM" (a joint business venture between Chrysler Corporation and Mitsubishi) only practically exists in the U.S. and certain trade markets, so Mitsubishi can sell a fully Japanese version Eclipse in other markets. The Mazda RX-7 was sold in both Japan and the U.S., but only certain Japanese-made ones could be imported into the U.S. because of stricter U.S. impact zone and safety standards.

It would be prohibitively expensive for a car maker to manufacture one version that covered all bases for everywhere. The car would price itself out of the market in regions with less restrictive standards.

I checked out the German Ebay link you provided. This was really helpful.

Unfortunately however, races-shop.com does not ship to my location. I found out about their website 2 days ago. The only way I could ship those parts would be to send it to someone who lives in a country that they ship to and then ship it back to me afterwards. I guess there are no alternative websites?

I am sorta thinking that installing a turbo would be the best option. I believe it will cost a lot and take a long time to gather all the needed parts. For now I will probably keep the engine stock and focus on other mods like suspensions, brakes, driver experience etc...

As I mentioned on my previous reply, I luckily met a person who has a GS and installed a turbo. One of the 3 people in my country who own the eclipse hahah... So now I have someone to help with the build.

One last thing, may I know how long did it take to install a turbo and how much did it cost to do? Are there any risks involved?

Anyways...
Thank you for this reply, it helped me a lot!!!

If anyone has anything else to share, please do and thanks in advance...

Makes sense, thank you for this information!

It's always a pleasure to help another fellow European DSMers :D I'm sure your country has some type of aftermarket shop, everyone has something and they can help with getting parts. Even a general parts shop can help you with some basic maintenance parts.

As for the first mods, I absolutely agree to get the car running as good as poosible. Do all the maintenance, make sure everything is okay, then you can upgrade the suspension and other parts. Later comes the performance mods, or the turbo, but you will need a 100% top condition engine for that.

If you ever decide to do the turbo swap, there will be some risks, as you need to change some core parts of the engine, so you will definitely need some mechanical experience. You need to invest a lot of money and time in it to be good and reliable. To make it properly work it will take at least 6 000 € just for the parts, and about 1-2 months of work, but this all depends on how much can you do yourself, and what are you goals. 6000 euros will take you to a safe 250 hp. (I am currently putting a list together with another DSMTuners member about the parts needed for the turbo build (with prices) and we are sorta trying to make a guide, to make the turbo swap easier for anyone who is taking on it.)

Good luck with owning and working on you DSM! Have fun with it

I found that thread and i dont know, if my advices helps now…

But i have (had) GS 4G63 Eclipse and actually build my own turbo version with some minor upgrades like ports, upgraded valve springs, etc…

Except some major things like manifold, intake, piping … or from other side - it can fit, but you need to change more parts to fit together …

Pistons are different from turbo version, due to different compression ratios…

Intake have on turbo MAP sensor on the top, n/a have exact piece except hole with casting for the sensor.

Different water pipe under exhaust manifold

You can see progress here in my profile (but i dont know when last time i refreshed it 😅)

Or on instagram: Saubik_Performance

Feel free to write me 😄

Hi!

It was a long time since I came to the forum, I was way too busy with life stuff.
So far I havent yet done any power mods. But I have researched a lot about it.

Thank you for still replying to this thread.
So far I did a few aesthetic mods, handling etc... (I should probably update my profile)

Most of my investments were on maintenence, I managed to clear it all out and the car is running perfectly absolutely zero issues so far (completely in love with the eclipse)

But yea I will most likely reach out to you guys for more info on performance and your past experiences.

Thanks :D
