So I finally got my logger cable, and I'm all happy that I can now log my car. But I open up under the dash, and there is a !@#$%^&* load of wires going everywhere for a Viper security system the orginal owner installed. I look around like nuts, but I can't find the diagnostic port! It's supposed to be right next to the fuse box, but it's not, it's just gone. I guess they removed it. And I really do think it's gone since when I took it to a shop to check the Check Engine light, they also told me they couldn't find it. So what are my options? Can I buy a port and hook it up?

Thanks,
Tamer

There's only 3 pins on the 1g Diag port, pins 1, 10, and 12. The logger cables that i've seen are shaped like the diag port and will accept the only three pins on it. Pin 1 is the diag. output pin, and 12 is the ground. (correct me if im wrong, i know somebody will  ) Those are the two pins that you contact with the analog meter to pull trouble codes. Im not sure what pin 10 does.

Maybe it is different on your N/T, or maybe its different from year to year but my car has 6 pins. And judging by his post, he doesnt have the whole plug that just fits right in the diag port. He has the home made style 3 wires with an individual connector for each wire.

Not all the pins are installed and for datalogging only three are of interest :)
The pins for the TCU and Cruise Control can be usefull if they're acting up.

Hi,

I am confused with the dashboard wiring and the engine wiring (inside the engine bay).
Is the ECU Diagnostic Port connector sitting right next to the fuse box consider part of the dashboard wiring or the engine wiring?

As what I can see is here, the ECU Diagnostic Port connector connects directly to the ECU, so I would guess that's engine wiring, no?

Please someone clarify this issue to a newbie like me here.

The DLC has connections to several different systems. The ECU connections are shown under the MPI circuit diagrams but the DLC also is part of the ABS, Cruise Control and ATX (on ATX cars) circuits.

Why are you asking?

Steve

Hi steve,

The reason Im asking is because I have my DLC fubar'ed and now I need to re-wire a new DLC to it.

Right now, I do not know how to go about doing that? I heard somewhere in the forum mentioning about connecting PIN1,PIN2 and PIN10 from the ECU to the DLC connector would do it, yes?

Pins 1 and 2 on the ECU connector and ground are what you want to bring out to what ever connector you decide to use. ECU Pin 1 is the data line and ECU pin 2 is the mode select line. When ECU pin 2 is grounded the ECU is in diagnostic mode and talks to the datalogger.

If you have a DLC connector available, pin 1 on it runs to pin 1 on the ECU, Pin 10 on the DLC to ECU pin 2, Pin 12 on the DLC goes to the chassis to provide a handy ground pin at the DLC. The datalogger or MUT cable usually picks up the ground from pin 12 and uses it to pull pin 10 low (pin 2 on the ECU) as well as providing the return path for the data line.

Like I said this is shown in the MPI circuit diagram in the electrical section of the manual or the fuel section of the main FSM. The other pins on the DLC run to things like the Cruise Control Computer, the ABS computer, and the Automatic Transmission Computer if you have them

Alright, I will have fiddling withi this tonite...

Thanks for such a detail explaination and your patience.

Ok so i bought a logger a long time ago and i have been trying to get it to work. Well i always got the "ECU COMM ERROR". Well i checked for a heartbeat nothing checked the ecu and even tried another ecu it all checked out good. So i am wondering if anyone has a wiring diagram for the Diagnostics port so i can try to find if there is a short somewhere in there. So i can log and see why my cel is on.

Thanks.

And why would it move?
It's supposed to be

there, but on mine its nowhere to be found!

I have a CEL up and can't check it because of this. I don't even know where the ECU is, let alone how to get to it and start hacking up wires to get the proper peices grounded...

Maybe you can help me figure it out while I poke around for the diagnostic port. It's all stock, except for the air box being removed, the MAF might be a little hacked (I haven't checked, 2nd day owning it), 2.5" exhaust that dumps under the car. I took my aunt for a run around the block after finally getting a muffler on it and it ran great, then I went around the block, tried to go up a hill and it was running rough, downshifted, backfire, then it was running way rough, hitting cut out.

I came back, found out the air box tube was disconnected slightly, hooked it back up, still runs poorly, but not as poorly as with the MAF disconnected.

Any ideas?

*edit* sounds like this might be fouled plugs again, but I don't know why the CEL would come on...

Don't want to bump. Checked out the ECU, it's AFU, think there are a few wires missing. I dunno who had this car before me, but I'd like to wring his neck. Turned a sweet ride into a shitboxx

I just purchased a data logging cable, and I went to the car to look for the OBDI where it should be (next to the fuse box) and I find this:

...Where is my obd port? Or which wire is it? I'm used to what obd2 ports look like, and thus, I'm not very familiar with this. Thanks in advance for the help

Hooray! Someone with the same problem as me!

I had to go all the way up into the underbelly of the ECU and get the shiz from there.

If you search on his site there is a guy who explains what wires go where, otherwise
http://www.ecanfix.com/users/mdhamilton/ecuwiring.html
get the wires you need from there.

I'm having a bit of trouble finding what you are talking about. Do you think you could explain where I plug the logger cable into?

I think he's saying that he had to just use wires off the ecu directly and plug them into a bone yard dsm obd port (make a connection). Since neither one of you have or had a plug.

what a pain... I'll add that to the list of Junk yard items to get. Thanks :thumb:

missing? um is that possible without seeing any wires cut LOL, if you need the entire car schmatics i have them for 1g and 2 g cars so let me know, maybe you can make your own.

Well, that's going to be the case I guess. Would I just tap into the wires on the ecu then?
