Okay the other night on the interstate I raced this Nissan Sentra and beat him bad. Well as I was getting off the exit, (not 2 minutes later), my oil light flickered. It just flashed and went back off. Over the next couple of days it did it a few more times. I check my oil every time I get gas and the next time I got gas I checked my oil and there was almost no oil in there. It hasn't even been 3 thousand miles since my last oil change either.

I bought the car off my brother in may and he told me that about every thousand miles I would have to add a quart of oil. He said that the factory told him that there was no way this defect could be fixed. OMG He told me this and I have done as directed, adding a quart every thousand miles. But now it seems like something else might be wrong. Is it my head gasket? My oil pump?

Now, this has me quite perplexed so any help would be appreciated. :thumb:

my oil light has flashed on me twice in the past month. both times it flashed was when i mad a long right turn. my oil was full both times. im guessing it flashed because of the huge right turns i made. also, did u use synthetic motor oil the last time u changed oil? if you did, its alot harder to see it on the dipstick and maybe u have oil but u cant see it on the stick.

is your car low? Where you "leaking" oil all over the place?

I know its out there but did you feel a bump while racing the sentra? Maybe a piece of debris knocked of your oil filter, get under the car and see if you got one.

Wow, thanks for the quick replies. :)

- I did actually use synthetic motor oil on my last change- but there was definitely little to no oil on the stick. I added some and the car seems alright now.

- I don't really remember feeling a bump. My car has got to be leaking somewhere. I'm going to take it into a garage and have it looked at tommorow.

I am worried, but hopefully I can get everything straightened out.

Any further responses/help much appreciated everyone. :thumb:

our cars are known for bad VC gaskets, and mine would leak oil down the back of the engine, along with some sitting on top. that may be it, are you noticing any spots on the ground?

I had a Celica GT that used almost exactly 1 quart every thousand miles. The problem with mine was that a spark plug actually shattered in the engine. The previous owner used cheap plugs instead of OEM and caused the plug to shatter when I was getting on the freeway one day. The debris really scored the cylinder but didn't hurt the compression at all. Took 3 months and several warranty disputes with the shop before they agreed to put in a new engine.
If you don't have any luck finding a leak, see if you can take it to a shop with a cylinder scope to make sure that the cylinders aren't scored. Only other thing I can think of is bad valve seals. Usually they smoke right when you start the engine, but clear up after a minute.

i have a similar problem mines doesnt smoke white or anything my mechanic told me it was internal but i think its a leak but i have to add oil every 600 miles

switching to synthetic on a motor used to regular oil with an oil leak, will only make matters tons worse.....
