im having install problems. I alrdy cut the frame where the uicp needs to go through. but now it says to use the bolts from the fog lights to bolt it to the car. problem is i dont think theyre long enough or storng enough. i cant find a longer bolt with the same thread? what should o dio? i cant use a nut and a bolt because theres no way to get the nut inside because theres sucha big lip where those electrical wires go. i have no idea what todo now. use one of those sheet metal screws to self tap it to the frame?

So you drilled and tapped new holes below the foglight holes or what?

I tried using the foglight holes, and the fmic sits so high up that I'm having trouble even getting the bumper on

When my brother and I installed his SSAC kit on his 2g, we drilled new holes below the fog light holes, but drilled all the way through the metal - all the way through to where the wiring harness is on the other side (be careful not to damage wires). Then we got a big, long bolt and a big washer and put the bolt through the hole with the head near the wiring harness. Where the bolt sticks out from the metal, put a jam nut there to hold it in place. Then you hang the intercooler off the two bolts sticking out, shim the intercooler with as many washers as you need to, and put a lock nut on the outside of the mounting tabs to hold the intercooler on.

Thanks

I'll be drilling new holes and getting some new long ass bolts tomorow

Then doing some MORE bumper cutting since that's ###### gonna push the fmic out more torwards the bumper.. LOL

I apologize for bumping this old thread but let me add something here for those who are installing this kit along with a 14, 16, 18, 20g turbo setup. This FMIC requires additional fabrication for that type of turbo. The driver side outlet on the FMIC had to be cut to 1/2 inch right before the bead on it. The j pipe must be cut down by about 3.5 inches and the reducer pipe to the driver side FMIC outlet must be cut 3 inches as well.

This right here saved my buddies a$$. Thanks Wraith.:thumb: We used GreddyGST's tech article but, it didn't mention anything about mods to the lower piping.I made the modifications you suggested and everything fell into place. Here's some pics of how it came out.

I think we need to trim the bumper some more.

I know! My buddy Mike doesn't want to though. He wants the "Sleeper" look. I told him that there's nothing sleeper about that SSAC. You guys think the motor will have cooling issues due to not cutting the rest of the bumper?

You using foglight holes?

With the fmic that high, you're gonna get a pretty good gap looking at it from any level besides the ground.

EDIT: No he will be fine with cooling, im leavin the black strip and my front plate there, looks like a radiator

No it'll be fine.. I cut mine to get some more airflow to the FMIC and to show off that beast of an intercooler!

Hey whats up guys.... I just got my FMIC off ebay to now I was looking at all the poeples pics on here and i saw on the 1G with i have they took out that fan motor on the right side.. and i guess just ran there car on the one fan is that gonna work or hurt it in anyway or make it run hotter... then I noticed i have to take my fog lights off witch sucks cause i like them but need the room to run the pipes so anypne have any other ideas that i didnt see..??? thanks

You can run two smaller slimline fans. I wouldn't run one fan if you intend to use a/c.

we'll then thats worls out for me cause the guy u had the car before me ripped everything out that has to do with the A/C system sucks cause i wanted A/C but that my fault cause i never asked ... found out when i got the car home ..LOL im a bumb ass but what fan is it i might as we'll ripp it out now..

The fan on the driver side is the AC fan. With normal factory wiring it only comes on when you have the AC on. If you don't have AC at all you might as well pull it out. I would recommend two slim fans wired to come on together if you start to see any overheating problems.

I never use the a/c, but re-wired and run both fans off the ignition. I can't tell by the pictures, but do you have to remove the a/c fans on 2ga fmic installs as well?

An addition here. I am going to install a 12" pusher fan on the ac shroud facing the engine bay to push air into the radiator since most of the airflow that you would have had before is being blocked and moved away by the ssac fmic. This will be the push fan which will serve as a "pull" fan from the air on the fmic back end and push air into the a/c shroud and radiator behind it and in turn that air will be pulled by the stock fans. I also cut two holes in my upper bumper. I will post pics if anyone would like a clearer idea. I do not want to install shrouding- too much of a hassle for now

Thats why theres a gap between the bumper and the IC bottom. You have to drill new holes like stated above and it will fit without modification.

I know this is old, but I have zero gap. I love the way mine looks and most comment that it looks like the cleanest short route they have seen so :p

Sorry if this is an old thread, but you're absolutely correct about the foglight holes. I finally had some free time this weekend and mounted the fmic. After lots of cutting, grinding and bitching, I finally had the sucker mounted. But it sat way to high, all I did was, instead of drilling new holes, all I did was I went to Ace and bought some metal strips, cut it, drilled it and made some brackets so that I can mount the intercooler lower, but still using the foglight holes. But after going through all that, I'm going to have to cut more of the frame in order for the fmic to sit properly. How much of the frame did you guys have to cut out in order for it to fit properly? Any pics, I hate going through that big thread regarding this fmic. :(

Hey I know I was right! I would not have said it if it wernt true. YOu have to mount the IC lower than the fog holes its that simple.

Anyway abput the frame , you have to get rid of all that thin sheet metal right down to the thick portion of the rad support. It will fit, just take your time. :thumb:

That's exactly how I have my frame cut, but it still isnt enough room, I think this could be due to my koyo radiator sticking out a bit much. I'll see what i can do to fix that, it looks like i can cut it without damaging the radiator. thanks.

snowborder714 also has a Koyo and the SSAC fmic and it fits without a problem. We cut it just like in the how-to and it fit fine. Just try to shove the fmic as far towards the passenger side as you possible can.
