Can you roll your toungue to make the rolling R sound? Do that and thats the best way to describe the sound it is making. Only happens or is at least noticeable starting around 3500rpm. Its pretty loud and sounds like its coming from the front of the car but cant tell if its from the engine or not. The idle is fine and its only when I hit the gas. If I let off the gas at 4k, it will go away until I press the gas down again. Maybe an exhaust leak??? I have no idea, any help? Car is a 2GNT.

Does it only do it under a load or can you rev it over 3500in neutral and it will still do it?

This is happeneing to my car also, but i also get a lot of vibration.. If you are having the same problems chances are it could be that the balance shaft is not sitting correctly. Try looking at that

I had a noise in my engine too 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS N/T. One doy while looking under my hood I found a piece of magnet or something that had broken off of an engine mount next to my coolant overflow tank. The piece was just sitting there between the mount and the body. Just like you I was going nuts I hated to rev it up at a light or even race at all. All I did was just pull it out and no more rattle. This is just what happened to me I don't know if this is your problem or not. I hope I helped someone. Thank You for your time.
