Well I just got a 2 1/2" turboback custom done by a local shop where I live. After it was done, I took it out for a drive. I notice this hollow whistling sound like someone blowing over a bottle. Anyone EVER have this with a new exhaust? Is it something else besides the exhaust maybe?

Im thinking that maybe it is the tip they welded on for me. I told them I wanted the stock look with 2 tips. So they welded one of those tips on that goes from one 2 1/2" piece to like a Y, ending with the two tips out the back. What Im thinking is the exhaust gases going over the Y might be making this whistling sound. It sounds just like that wooo wooo video if anyone has ever seen that funny clip of the whistle tips ghetto kids get in Cali or something. Well actually it isnt that funny because the sound is on my damn car.

Just wondering if anyone knows what this really is.

Check for exhaust leaks. Also make sure that they actually bolted on everything correctly. I've had alot of bad experiences with exhaust shops not completely bolting everything back into place. I don't know what even people go to exhaust shops anymore, the exhaust system is the easiest thing to take care of on any car =) If you still can't find the problem, try swapping on a different muffler and see if it makes a difference. If it does then you will know it is the Y split that is causing the weird noise.

Well I went to the exhaust shop to do a turboback because it was only $300 and I hate the sound of most exhausts on 4 cyl. Plus I wanted a stock looking tip. I went back today and they said give it maybe 500 miles or so for the carbon to build up inside the muffler. It isnt a straight through muffler so he said the something about the baffles could be making that sound since it isnt too free-flowing. He also does not think it is the tip at all.

So I guess I have to drive this stupid thing around for 500 miles and see if it goes away. It better. :thumbdown

Any other suggestions or comments?

mine did that after i put on a remus axle back on my 2.5 cat back system..2 weeks later,it went away and the exhaust note changed..then i put my test pipe in..i get thisa hollow whiste noise only when the exhaust is cold....when Stainless steel gets warm, the acoustics change.. i also have problems due to 3 different exhaust brands in my car(all match up perfectly btw) so my car can sound different at different times LOL..but it sounds best after doing a high speed run on the Autobahn..then coming off a offramp into town..best sound

so,just flog your car a few times down the highway, the sound will change
