Help 1G AutoTrany Puking fluid.

Ok so I have been searching and can not find any posts that have my issue. So I have a 92 TSI AWD with the F4A22. I have 2 coolant nipples on the top of the tranny that run to a tranny cooler. I have never had an issue untill today. I was on my way to go somewhere that was about 35 miles away. I stoppe at the parts store to see a friend and when we lifted the hood we could see out ofte hose closest to the firewall leaking fluid. It seemed to be this because the hose clamp was loose. So I bought a new clamp borrowed a screw driver and tightedened it down and thought that was it. Well I got half way on my trip and came to a stop light and noticed smoke everwhere. IT was coming from being blown down the underside of my tranny. Now It has to be coming from up top.

The point where it meets the engine is dry, but everywhere else is soaked in fluid. I MEAN SOAKED, even the coolant hose that runs to the radiator is covered in fluid. Now those nipples on the top of the tranny seem to have threads, Because there is a nut on the nipple that seems like you could tighten them up.

Now I am letting the car cool right now before I go out to work on it. Any ideas where all this fluid could be coming from? At idle if you look under the car its a very fast drip. But looking at the nipple its hard to see if anything is coming out at all. VERY hard to seel I am considering using another hose and by passing the cooler all together and looping one nipple to the other. But to put it in perspective my trans case is screaming for a life preserver. All the ooling fins are filled with bright red fluid. THIS sucks. anyone have this issue before. Ohand for referance there was about an extra court of oil in there that I was going to drain out later tonight when I got home. But As of right now MORE than a quart has drained out.

Bet you blew out a seal if you put too much fluid in the tranny where the torque converter meets the tranny. Or, let's hope that a fluid line had split on you since that fluid is quite hot and loves to dry out hoses.

When it's in idle and in neutral, the inner pump is doing its thing circulating the fluid through the tranny (why you check level in neutral) and torque converter.

and use only ATF+4 in that F4A22. Anything else will kill it in a heartbeat.


Gonna have to pull the tranny and see what is what ... sorry on this and good luck in your find. DSM

1 quart of extra fluid probably wouldnt give it that much more pressure to blow a seal like that. Soulds to me like one of your lines split.
