HELP! 1997 GST Auto Tranny Problems!

Just bought a 97 GST and its got some transmission issues. Filter is replaced, fluid is replaced and correct. It seems to have a hard time actually going into gear from park. A lot of times it will just act like its in neutral the entire time but at other times it will go into gear, but very hard. Its kinda driveable but I'm not driving it due to the problems. Once I can get it to go into gear though, it will cycle through 1, 2, and 3 but no overdrive. So 60 mph is at about 4k. I'd rather repair than replace, but this problem is getting under my skin. I've searched all over but can't seem to find a definite answer. Any help from a Guru would be much apprecieated!!

Ok.... So pretty much you are just having a hard time with your overdrive correct??? if you are, most likely your end clutches are gone and need to be replaced. You can buy an end clutch rebuild kit from importperformancetrans.com

If you are having a hard time with all of your gears; most likely you will have to completely overhaul the transmission buddy.

Could be the fluid pump is getting ready to go out, and seen torque converters go bad as well.

True ... OD end clutch replacement might cure the OD issue, but take it to a tranny shop for more info on your tranny's condition.

What fluid did you use? If you used DEXTRON, that stuff kills trannies in a heartbeat. DSM trannies uses Chrysler ATF+4, or SP-II fluids.
