i bought a 99 gs a few weeks ago and he put a pace setter racing header on it with no cat convert and just a shitty ####ing exhaust it sounds like a honda i want a nice deep tone from my exhaust any advice on what to get.. also the header gets extremely hot so hot that its melting my radiator fans and everything around it would a quick fix be a heat wrap or exhaust wrap?? kinda dont know what to do...

you can wrap your header in heat wrap or get a heat shield. The wrap would be easier. I wrap my stock manifold in the titanium wrap and its really good. I know you can use the cat back from a GST and that should give you a good sound but since there is no cat I don't know how it would fit on.

Try wrapping it with exhaust wrap, it should help with the heat. You probably need to get a cat back for it to sound any better. You should also make sure you dont have any exhaust leaks.

ive never actually looked and saw them workin.. i got it a few weeks ago.. but u can defiantly tell that theyre melted which i didnt notice til a few days after buying it...:banghead:

Who the hell are you and what are you doing in my town? :p

Header wrap will definitely help, but it is strange that a regular pacesetter set-up would melt fans. Are they stock fans? Got pics?

IF you do decide to wrap it than soak the wrap in a bucket of water before wrapping the header. IT expands when it gets wet so you install it wet and it will shrink when it dries and fit snug.

+1 for it to melt the fans is very odd. How does the car run? It getting that hot leads me to believe that there is some fuel not burning causing the manifold to get hotter than its suspossed to, but then again, I've seen wierder things happen. Pics will help!

I have painted 4-2-1 pacesetter Header and they melted a little my AC fan, few days after i did the 2 fan mod and it stoped melting,

just be sure that the fanss are not touching the header and you'll be fine (worked for me)

BTW i have stock fans...

If you want to save $$ try the OEM heatshield the best idea is heat wrap.

OP consider yourself lucky. You live in the same area as Bullet. I would take a kick in the nuts to sit with Bullet for a day and pick his brain.

The melted fans is peculiar. Are the fan blades themselves melted or the just the housing?

If it is just the housing and does not affect the blades movement then just make sure they work and wrap the header.

If the blades themselves have been affected then replace the fan assemblies, ensure they function once installed. And still wrap the header.

I'm with Bullet on this one, very odd that pacesetters would get that hot. Pacesetter isn't the best, but they aren't complete crap either. I had pacesetter headers on my 01 v6 camaro i had a few years back and could have not been more satisfied.

I can also suggest cleaning the radiator and ensure air is able to pass through.
Maybe that could be a culprit ???
