head issues

I have a 99 gsx with a 7 bolt. My timing belt shredded up. And i have a 6 bolt head will it go on my 7 bolt and what parts do i need to get or mods do i need to do? Thanks for the help!

The 6 bolt head will bolt to your 7 bolt block.

If you do this, you should use the 6 bolt intake, the intake runner differ in size from 6 bolt to 7 bolt.

Also if you have the cam sensor behind the intake cam gear on your 7 bolt, the 6 bolt will not have the mounting bosses for that.

A 1G/6-bolt head will work, but you need the 1G intake manifold and throttle body, some provision for the MDP sensor, and either a 1G coilpack or fabricate something for the coilpack, etc.

Thanks guys! Also its the stock head that came on the car. Ive got the 7 bolt motor swap n it. In 99 did they come with 7 bolts? And thaks again.

7bolts were 95 to 99 if im correct , and 90 to 94 had 6 bolt engines.

Come on, now.

1990~1992.5 were 6-bolts; ~1992.5-1999 were 7-bolts.

Since the original engine is a '99, the cam sensor will be on the passenger side of the head. Swap the '99 intake cam over to the 6-bolt head to retain the '99 cam sensor as well and you won't have to do any rewiring or mess with a 1G cam sensor at all.

I thought this was already mentioned...

The 2G thermostat housing will not work on the 1G head. By consequence, the 2G water pipe will not work with the 1G head. You'll also need to concern yourself with the extraneous coolant lines running to the turbo and the oil cooler. Here's a couple posts touching on these areas.
