so i used a manual gauge type of torque wrench, and i believe i did a sorry job. i see smoke in between my head and gaskets, and upon acceleration i get smoke out of my muffler. but when it starts no smoke comes out, its only when i accelerate.
anyways, my question is does having a little gap in ## head can cause smoke?

i did, but i took it the head off after

What exactly do you mean?

Doing a proper head gasket change for the first time takes a lot of time and research. If you put in little time and little research, it will make itself apparent in the form of smoke.

You definitely do not want to be seeing smoke coming from between our block and head. Take it all apart and put it back together properly and then report back. I have been dealing with the woes of a 420a head gasket change myself so you can check my thread history and may come across some useful information.

Good luck.

i wanna say white... its realy hard to see a blue tint, LOL the only time i see blue is if im pshyching myself and i imagine it. but its really hard to tell to be honest, for the most part its white.

How many miles have you put on the motor since you did the head gasket?
You might want to rent or buy a digital torque wrench or at least a good one and just try re-torquing the head bolts in the proper sequence before you go tearing everything apart.

he needs to go back and redo it if not torqued properly.
are you sure you dont have left over fluids on the block that are burning that came out when you took the head off?

You must not be familiar with doing a head gasket change on a 420a. You have tear everything apart to re-torque the head bolts! Cam shafts out, lifters, timing sprockets, a bit of a headache. Just fyi not trying to be mean or anything. Unless you have a crazy swivel to your socket and a torque wrench that would read accurately in that contorted shape, then I suppose you could leave the camshafts in.

I have nearly the same problem as the OP after doing my head gasket change. I am 99% certain I did everything correctly but after about 5 minutes or running, I get the same exhaust smoke from the tail pipe the OP does.

For both of us: How long would it take to burn out the leftover fluids? Until an oil change? In a few seconds? For me, it's still smoking after about 1.5 hrs of runtime.
