I Have a 1997 mitsubishi eclipse GST it has 100k Miles and has a 1g Head everything runs fine.. past smogged... just wana change the oil.. im going royal purple.. Is 15-40 ok?

i would either run 5w-30 or 10w-30 i dont see why you would need that grade of oil but 5w-30 or 10w-30 should be fine.

well its becuase i have royal purple 15-40 that someone gave me.. and sayed it would run fine with it.

The highest I've used was 10-40.

It won't give you the best mileage, but it won't hurt anything. 5w30 is your best bet being in NJ.

What weight are you running now? I would think with stock bearing clearances that your oil pressure would be too high and could cause problems with that thick of an oil. If the car is running good, then I would just leave the weight the same as you have been using.

Personally, I wouldn't run it. It really won't help anything and could be problematic. Plus, switching to synthetic oil in a high mileage motor has been known to cause problems. I can't remember why right off hand cause my brain is tired, but I did look into it a while back and determined not to switch to synthetic in my wife's car with 105k miles.

I wouldn't run 15-40 this time of year in Jersey. Save it for when it warms up next spring, then use it.
