Been looking and most of it makes sense but I'm just curious as to how I should setup the GT4088R oil feed. I know I'll need an oil restriction and filter as it's ball bearing but I'm just making sure I make the purchase ONCE and only do maintenance and repairs.

So the question is, what would be the best oil feed configuration for a GT4088R, what restriction should be used (brand), and should an in-line oil filter be used (if so what is the best brand)?

Thanks again guys!

Head pressure will peak around 25-30psi, the restrictor will keep from drowning the cartridge, and the filter will keep your turbo safe in case the engine scatters for any reason....just be sure to check the filter once in a while to make sure you don't starve the turbo if it gets dirty.

I feel as if I've been through that first thread but didn't actually find what I was looking for. I mean, I know what needs to be done to properly feed the turbo without causing problems but no defined setup was actually mentioned, just "varying" setups. Most seemed trial and error... I've got a few different setups in mind but it's a matter of if I choose correctly and don't #### up something I really don't wan to purchase again (GT4088R). Worse case scenario I'll try one method and hope the turbo is still alive.

Being that BB turbos require so little oil the only thing you really need to do is make sure you have a restrictor in place that's small enough. All the PTE units come with it already threaded into the CHRA and they have paint on them atthe threads that are still sticking out to tell if it's been removed. If the garrett units don't come with a restrictor you can buy them from ATPturbo for a good price.

The restrictors are so small (at least the ones i've seen) it really shouldn't matter where you oil it because enough won't get through to cause pressyure to build from it backing up into the CHRA. Remember pressure is a result of a lack of flow (or oil/air that can't get through it's passage) So as long as the restrictor is small enough you could feed it fromthe head or the OFH.

When i was running the PTE6776 (slightly larger than a 35r) I was oiling it from the head, using only the PTE restrictor (no filter but i would recomend one if you can afford it) But i NEVER had a single issuue with the oiling/bearings in that unit. I've since sold the 67mm comp and 76trim turbine wheel inside a journal bearing CHRA and used an older T31 turbine and 50 trim compressor housing/wheel combo and have kept the BB chra for future use and experimentation as well as a backup turbo in case my holset meets it's maker (i sure hope not LOL)

Either way, my suggestion is to feed the BB turbos fromthe head.. Although it really shouldn't matter, having lowerpressure to start with as well as a shorter line that is out of the way of possible damage will help in assuring the thing lasts through whatever may happen to you or the car.

I feel as if I've been through that first thread but didn't actually find what I was looking for.
The bottom line is research and understand the oiling requirements for the turbo you're about to install, then choose your source and restriction based on the pressure and volume the turbo requires. This means going straight to the manufacturer if necessary to get a trustworthy answer.

If this is too difficult or too much of an inconvenience, then I suggest sticking with turbos of the OEM platform where Mitsubishi has already figured out the oiling for you.
