Well guys... I've got a few concerns.

Yesterday I went over to my old adoptive families house to swim and get a few things done. While I was there I decided to begin a few of my Free Mods and hacked the Air Can and was getting the things made for my EGR Blockoff and Emissions delete.

As I was installing my wonderful new high-flow-hacked-air can... I decided to check my timing belt.

I pull the cover, and about have a heart attack. On the right side closest to the engine there is a dime wide sized groove. A very rough groove. It is about as deep as the ridge on a penny. I was JUST commenting before I parked it of how well it had been running recently (note, the engine has just been rebuilt and is being broken in) I was so damned discouraged.

So I take it home nice and slow, cussing the whole time. Well... I started thinking about it and I've come to terms with it. This weekend I was going to tear all the pullys and belts off and rephase my oil pump gear anyway because it's out of phase and makes a bad noise around 2.5K. Then I remembered " I have a BSE installed on my spare block at home! I'll just swap that over, get better oil pressure... put on a new T-Belt... and make sure the ignition timing is correct!!"

Of course.. I can't pull the engine.. so the BSE is out of the question. =/

So, I'm somewhat happy? I'm hoping to get it done tomorrow.

Also, what could be causing the groove? =/ A resistant pully?

The groove is from someone using the wrong oil pan bolts. They used bolts that were too long. I think there are three on the timing belt side that are shorter than the others.

Just remove and replace.

Still should replace that belt though, correct? It'd be negligant to not do so.
 
Yes, replace the belt but you already knew that. It certainly won't make another 60k miles with a big groove gouged out of it.
 
Haha. ;P Of course.

I was seriously PO'd when I saw it....but I suppose this gives me a chance to do a few things correctly this time, like get that damned oil-pump phased correctly.

Anything else anyone would recommend that I do while I'm down there?
 
You can still do the BSE on the rear and just leave the front one in there not attached to anything.

Don't I have to take off the oil pump assembly and whatnot?
 
Yes, you still have to take the oil pump cover off and pull out the rear balance shaft to replace it with the stub shaft. But you can leave the front balance shaft in the block not connected to anything.
 
Update -

I tore the engine apart this weekend.

GOOD call on the Screw frm the oil-pan. That was EXACTLY what the issue was. ;D

I replaced the Timing Belt, made sure the pulleys were still good.. made sure everything was timed, and left the BS in. I have another block I'm going to be building up, so I'm just going to be doing the BSE to it.

I have 1 issue now.

In my manual, it shows that the timing mark for the crank is in a different position than the 91+ models? I'm actually starting to believe this. I've been trying to set my ignition timing with a light and by adjusting the CAS...but no matter what I do the timing mark is on the opposite side of the damned dial that's on the timing cover. Every time the light flashes, the mark is up and towards the driver instead of up and towards the radiator.

I have a miss, I can feel it... but I obviously have had no luck timing this thing? What the hell am I doing wrong? Could this POSSIBLY be a later model 6 Bolt with a 90' CAS on it?

Note : Idle is at 800-900. So it's idling perfect...I also deleted all of my Emissions and blocked off my EGR.
