I have read many conversions about converting your GST to a GSX, and I know this is a noob question but I'm about to buy a GSX and I wanted to know my options before I do the swap.

Is it easier/cost friendly to convert the GST to GSX?

Or easier/cost friendly to just bring everything that's in my GST and place it in the GSX.

My GST is a 1995, the GSX is 1997.

The reason I would like to do this is because my GST has mods on it, and the GSX is stock.

So I'd rather be putting more $$ into a car that's AWD. And leave my fwd for daily.

Thanks! And I apologize if their is a forum on this topic, I searched and did not find any, but if their is a topic already, please feel free to post the link. It would be a great help! Thank you!

I agree, I don't see why you don't put your stock parts on your GST and the after market parts on your GSX?

Is there a reason for it?

First question is; Do you have the skills to do this conversion? Second, do you have the time and equpitment IE 70+hours to devote to the project, torch, welder, grinders assortment of wrenches and sockets.. Money? Depending on the quality of the GSXs parts such as brakes and wheel bearings, bushings.. Things like that you have to take into account..

It took me about 75 hours to do my swap and I didnt have a job and was working on it apx 8 hours a day for about a week.. Someone with a job will take longer. I personally thing the only DSM that "should" be converted is a spyder since they never came AWD.. If I were you Id swap parts into the GSX..

Don't convert the GST.. Your better off putting your mods from the GST into the GSX.

The amount of trouble you will go to convert it (don't get me wrong, many have done it), you will be kicking yourself in the a$$ for not just swapping over parts.

And I agree with the person above me, the Spyder is really the only DSM worth converting into awd.

I have had my GST for years, and was able to work on it and build it to where it is at today. As for the GSX I'm about to purchase it off of a buddy of mine. His GSX is stock.

So i can just switch everything that's in the GST into the GSX? And everything in GSX into the GST?

Their both 7 bolt, so it should be a simple swap right?

I apologize for all the questions, I just want to be 100% sure that it can be done before I purchase the GSX.

That is correct, just about everything will interchange without any problems

The only thing you would have to fix after the swap is your plug wires. Since the 2gb's have the cam sensor on the end of the cam and 2ga's are under the cam gear, the signals to the ECU are inverted. So instead of plugs being 4123 theyll be 2341..

But yes everything in the GST will bolt up to the GSX no sweat. Well you'll sweat but you get it! :thumb:

For sure! Thanks for the heads up!

it all depends on the condition of the gsx and gst. if the gst is in better condition the swap might be worth it. alot of us do the swap on gst because the gsx's in our area;s are trash and only use them for parts.

Yeah I'll look into it before I purchase.
I know dsm's are known for leaks, and AWD models could have even more problems than fwd. what are some things I should look for before purchase?

What are common leak areas?

Or just click the little box in DSMLink that says "invert CAS signal"...

To the OP... The mods on your GST aren't that extensive other than the pistons. As long as the engine in the GSX is healthy, I'd just leave the engine that's in there alone and bolt on the GST's mods. The stock GSX engine should handle a 20g and supporting mods as long as the tune is decent.

Really?
I know my GST is bored o.020
Forged pistons
Arp Rods/studs
Hks 272 cams
20g turbo.

So a healthy stock GSX engine should be able to handle it well? Great!
The GSX has 170,000 original miles!
So I'll probably take it in to get a rebuild either way.

Bored over doesn't mean much for how much power the engine can handle. The forged pistons however is an upgrade. Stock 2g pistons have held over 500whp. The rods on the 2g is the weakest point. Still, there are plenty of 2g/EVO guys making over 400whp on the stock rods. It's all in the tune...

If the compression is good on the engine in there, why pull it? To swap engines just because you have forged pistons in the one doesn't seem worth it to me. If it was a fully forged rotating assembly, that's another thing... I'd just check the tolerances on the oil pump, eliminate the balance shafts, put some ARP head studs in it, swap in your 272's & do a full timing belt job because it's alomost time for it anyway, and call it a day.

On a side note, I'm getting tired of waiting for my 99's engine to die so I might do some bolt ons to it and it has 240K on it.
