Well just recently i purchased a full 3" stainless steel exhaust and a fmic. My question is, do i need a logger or afc or anything like that? I just dont want to blow it up yet. I just need to know what i need. I got a full 3" exhuast from downpipe back. My other mods are boost controler and intake, other then that its stock for the most part.:dsm:

Yes you should definatley get a logger. My car was all stock and I bought one. I thought my car was running good, but i was getting alot of knock due to many boost leaks. Also the safc would be nice so you could get the most out of the stock injectors, but that is up to you.

A logger's always a good idea, but if you plan on leaving the boost levels in stock range for now, I wouldn't worry too much about the AFC. When you decide to upgade the turbo and fuel system then you can consider fuel management options. Adam also has a point though that you COULD marginally improve the tune on your stock setup by running it a bit leaner, but I wouldn't do so without a logger since subtracting fuel increases timing and this can often lead to knock.

If you want to get something now that will safely lean the tune without jacking the timing curves, I'd get an EPROM ECU with a Keydiver chip. I can help you with custom A/F mapping and we can safely squeeze more power out of your motor and give you the ability to actually see knock (no logger required). It's much safer and it provides a great stepping stone to DSM Link if you ever go in that direction.

It's basically up to you,

Andy

You guy's knowledge put me in shock.

Ok well here's what i need, i need to know what i need to get. Like what do you guys recomend. I heard bad stuff about the keydrivers, but i cant go by a few things i heard. I got the eprom ecu becuase my cars a 95 so it has it.

So do i go safc with a logger? and if i go that route is it possible for a dumbass like me to tune the damn thing without blowing the car sky high? Also if you are tuneing the with a safc do i need a wideband o2?

Ok and the key driver i dont know much about so ummm a little help would be great on what i got to do.

thanks much guys your a big help i want to get my parts on my car but im scared to blow it becuase i can hear the knock.(all i have now is upper and lower i/c pipes and an intake, 1g bov and boostcontroller, although it could be the gas i got 91 octane because that was the amount the gas station had at irving, i only usually run 93. I just want to get my car ready for the fmic, and the full 3"exhuast. I still got the stock turbo, i was looking on ebay at the 57trims(i think thats what it was). let me know what you think about that because its some what cheap and there is always a bunch of them all the time.

If you can hear the knock then I'd suggest turning the boost down a little. Since you already have a eprom ECU then I see no reason why not to get a keydiver chip. They have injector compensation if you plan on running larger injectors. The compensation get very close but if you really want to fine tune them you can. Also the safc would be nice so you could get other options such as sutterbox launch, knock sum boost gauge, and NLTS. I just purchased a stage 2 chip and Im basically stock with full 3 inch exhaust, and I definatley noticed a different. Like Andy said the stock A/F is pretty rich. I believe I gave you the link to the site in another thread but here it is again. www.dsmchips.com

yeah thanks man again, i got stock injectors right now, i guess i need to know what i got to do to do the dsmchip thing. like do i need the safc still? Will i need to change injectors, idk i just want to get my fmic and full exhuast on.(safely). Do i need the wideband o2 to do tuneing? i got a a/f gauge.

sorry for being a pain i just want some more go power. im getting muscle car guys after me LOL, i beat all the imports here.

If you have a custom tune added to the Keydiver chip, you won't need an AFC and you can physically see knock on the stock boost gauge. As you make updates or changes to the injectors or turbo, you can easily and inexpesively upgrade the chip.

A wideband is a great investment and I wish I had one to see what was up. It's a great tuning tool when combined with the ability to read knock on the stock boost gauge.

As far as ebay turbos, I wouldn't bother, but that's just me. Anywho shoot me a PM and we can talk more about setting up a safe tuning arrangement for you at very reasonable cost.
