OK, but do any car inspection companies have ASE certified mechanics? Oh ya, btw, the car isn't anywhere near to me (2,700 miles)......

Well lately I've been looking for a new mid size SUV since my Wrangler took a dump on me :notgood: but around here prices have skyrocketed for them. I mean 02's and 03's with 60K on them going for $14K+ OMG WTF so I got on eBay Motors and found a few that are newer and far less miles for cheap. I mean like $9-10K with like 30-50K miles. All these "dealers" have reputable feedback, and some are even awarded by eBay themselves. Anyways I found this Jeep Liberty down in Palm Beach and the bank came through on it and I'm still debating on buying it. Have 4 days left on it, and seriously thinking about flying down and driving it back home (1850 miles, ouch!) but really don't want to have it break down on me half way home. Anyone have any good luck with these types of purchases?

Yeah, if you're gonna buy a car off ebay I would suggest that you buy a car that's closer to you. However, a lot of reputable dealerships sell cars on ebay and might come through on the car "as described".

I just got my car about a week ago and it was coincidence how I got it. I emailed the guy about a GST he was selling and he informed me that he had another one for $700. I was like WTF and low and behold I purchased the car a day later. $625 resulted in the title being signed over to me on the spot. The car's a project but I know I would've never found this deal anywhere else.....autotrader etc..

I personally have bought 3 1g dsm's off of ebay, my current daily beater Cutlass, and a daily beater Chevelle a few years ago. My first was a 93 Laser 1.8 auto that I gave $400 for and drove home 3 hours with. Car had a Earl Scheib paint job and interior was trashed. Found a 94 Laser a week later an hour away for $100 with a blown head gasket. Combined the cars together to make a good one and used it as a daily beater for about 6 months. Sold the car for $1500 to buy parts for my 93 Laser rst, that I also bought off ebay. I gave $630 for it and trailered it home 2 hours. It had 130k miles, was a 2 owner car completely un-modded, and needed a clutch. The original owner had it until 6 months before I got it. The second owner was a kid that learned to drive a stick with it. When he finally smoked the clutch he decided to get rid of it. The clutch was so bad it wouldn't move under it's own power to load onto the trailer. The car was very clean, interior spotless and I was very excited when I got it home to find it had compression between 145-150 across the board. The Chevelle I drove 8 hours to pick up and tow home. I bought it from a towing company that had towed it in with a bad transmission and the owner never claimed it. I stole it for $450, rebuilt the trans, painted it and drove it everyday for about 2 years before selling it on ebay for a considerable profit. My current daily beater 91 Cutlass, I bought last fall when I parked my dsm for the winter. I gave $280 for it and drove it home 2 hours. I got it from the 2nd owner that had bought the car for their 2 teenage sons to learn how to drive with. It was in fantastic shape mechanically with 130k miles. However, with 2 teenagers learning how to drive with it, there was not a completely straight panel on the entire car. I could care less as it is completely reliable and gets 27 mpg on the highway. The only things that have been done to it are front brakes, 2 tires and oil changes in the last 10k miles. The biggest thing I have found about buying a car off of ebay, is to ask a LOT of questions. I have had very good luck with ebay and will continue to use it to buy and sell cars. I have sold even more cars than I have bought there.

I bought a 1987 Mazda RX7 Turbo II off of ebay. Original owner, 90k miles...$1850. :) It was only about an hour from where I live. Turbo was blown, otherwise the car was beautiful. Turned around and sold it for $2500 with no more money thrown at it.
