So I wired up a GM MAF/Translator on a friends car for him with the diagram pictured below.

I wired all 6 wires off the side of the Translator to the ECU like pictured. For the top 3 wires which are for the actual MAF plug, I did not wire those to the cut side of the wires (pin 8, 10, 16[these wires are now just laying dormant]). The translator came with a harness that goes straight to the GM MAF plug.

Tried to start the car, BOOM.. Large back fire. The car ran perfect before on the 2g MAF that was installed.

Any opinions?

You should just send it back to the company. I looked into getting one that didn't have either plug (the guy had a GM MAF plug, but it wasn't wired), so I called the company to see if I could get a 2g MAS plug. They told me to send it in and they would test it as well as put the plug on. It would cost me nothing to very little for this service as they are under lifetime warranty. I'd call them up, explain the situation, and they should be able to help you out.
