You're right on the part aobut once you get your afc and logger, leave the afc alone and just log and see what changes need to be made. I am asusming you dont have larger injectors since you dont have them listed in your profile.
The part about getting the MAFT setup just for the ability to vent your blow off valve: There are people that will argue alot over if it is benifical to get a maft setup. But here are a few things(someone correct me if I am wrong). You have a less restrictive part within your intake system (which is why many get it). You can vent your bov (which is why I would think again many get it). You have freedom to have pretty much any type of intake setup on your turbo you would like (having the maft setup as blow-through). When tuning with the translator over the afc, the afc can change maf readings going to your ecu by 1% incriments, the newest translator out has the resolution to correct up to 2% increments. If you are like most people with an afc (myself included) 2% incriments are just fine....but a finer resolution is better but only if you can take advantage of it. The AFC corrects airflow based upon throttle position (using TPS), the maft setup will correct your airflow using load levels (airflow and engine speed >>as "KPT" stated earlier in the thread)....I guess it can be tossed around but from what I read and understand I believe using airflow load levels are better than using throttle position.
I am in the situation now where I am getting a maft setup (blow-thru) along with my SBR front mount, because I wanted to get it while the pipes could be configured for it, and have less of a restriction for the air. I am going to tune with the translator as best I can and see how I can get the car to run on that tune and the afc all zeroed out. If I dont need the afc i'll sell it, but if I feel that it is a great combination with the translator I will keep it and tune with both.
Knowing what the afc, and translator do..along with the benifits of using a combination or either setup I believe you can make your choice. See what you like to work with and use it. Alot of people love the afc and alot love the maft setup. Have fun tuning--Dave
also - If anyone wants to correct anything I wrote please feel free to, I only want to provide the best information I can for this guy.
