So i would like to start this off saying i have been searching for this the last 2 hours or so. I am running ceddy mods on my 96 tsi and plan on goind SD. i am just wondering if the IAT sensor is pre compressor or pre throttle body. right now i am under the impression it replaces the stock maf IAT sensor meaning its a pre compressor sensor. i just want to make sure and have things clarified for people who are searching like me.

thanks ahead

Just before the TB is where most people will locate it. I put mine right after my FMIC (short route) because I have thoughts that I may run meth injection which will alter the temp readings.

Thank you for the quick response.
in my head i was sure it was the throttle body elbow region but the more i read the more i thought it was a pre compressor sensor which doesnt make sense because it isnt an important temperature which enter the turbo, only the "combustion air" temp (neglecting the small rise in temp. from the head) is important.

thanks again

I actually installed the sensor in the 2g throttle elbow when running SD.
Theoretically, I think you'd want it closest to intake manifold as possible since that would be the closest reading to what the engine is actually seeing.

Throttle body elbow with custom happyness from ETS, 2.5 inches from turbo outlet to throttle body :)

I don't see why not. Shouldn't make a huge difference anyway. Just make sure you angle it parallel to the ground or aimed slightly downwards. Condensation and such
The air should be the same temp 6" downstream. ROUGHLY the same temp. The air passing by the outlet for the BOV will roil and friction causes heat. So, it'll read slightly cooler than what it actually is but i doubt that it's going to be something that would even be out of the margin of error. I'm talking 2 to 4 degrees.
