I don't know how you lost your liscence, but try to keep it resonable on the streets around other cars/people. I'm not gonna preach, you know what I'm saying.

Anyways, practice practice practice. Most clear days on my way home from work I'll practice a launch up to 60mph on an empty road. You should be able to keep your drivers side wheel inches from the yellow line the car should go so straight. One finger on the wheel with an open diff as well. I don't like people riding in the back of my car (unsafe for adults) so I took the rear seats out and carpeted it. I can haul way more stuff (tents, tires, bikes etc...) and I loose a bunch of weight where it hurts fwd's the most. Think about pulling the rear bumper and making your own ligher tubular crash bar out of chrome moly. Some guys pull the power antenna motor and windshield wiper. Curt Brown went so far as to mill out the trailing arms to lighten them. The goodwill laser had the rear floor cut out and sheet metal put in. They also moved the fuel cell to the engine bay. How far do you want to go? Since you have time off from driving get the ground controls and corner weight the car. Start moving stuff around with all the springs set at the same height to even things out as much as possible with mechanical weight. Then adjust the coilovers to get within 5 lbs left/right with the rear about 1.5" higher than the front. Make sure the suspension is tight up front, good ps rack, good ball end joints, strut bars are good up front (I don't have one yet). Have someone drive it to get it aligned for you. FWD is more about chassis setup earlier in the game than the awd guys. I'm kinda talking out my ass because my car is aligned like hell after a few spins autocrossing and some major potholes I've hit lately. Its also not corner weighted because I don't have the money for scales. You know what you need to do though, and that is get it to go straight and make the car quit fighting itself.

A good place to learn about fwd launching is the turbo dodge guys. They are lighter on average, but the same principals apply.

Well I just wanted to revive this thread and say a note. I did end up getting some 8" slicks on 15" Aero wheels for FREE, yes free. I didn't hit 12's the othe night, but I came damn close to is. 13.06 @ 109mph. Obviously you can tell I had a shitty tune due to the lower than I should have trap speeds. I haven't driven the car in a while and just ran it on a less than great tune. So next time Ill be ready w/ a better tune and ready for the 12's. I still only had a 2.09 60' time b/c of some weak ass blown stock rear shocks so I spun a bit through 1st still. Hope to hit high 12's before the end of the season. Then mid to low 12's next season w/ cams and a good suspension setup.

Thanks for all the help again guys.

I like danl's idea of keeping the rear above the front to prevent as much squating, but my .02 on times, I have driven my gs-t full weight on a big 16g (20psi) with an open diff on street tires to a 13.2 at 108.7, also i am using eibach sportline springs and tokico blue shocks/struts (non-adjustable) i plan on coming up with a differen suspension setup close to danl's with the adjustable coilovers

Yeah the car is just squating too much still. Too see, check out my old 14.1 sec FWD vid in the vids section, youll see the bad squat. Hopefull I can afford going a Ground Control kit or similar, as those are good, yet good priced kits.

Hate to be bringing up such an old thread but I am for sure going to the track this saturday and hopefully i'll be able to get my slicks from my buddy when he comes back from vacation in time for my track outing. The only thing that has me worried is using slicks on stock axles with the 2-step. Right now when I am on the 2-step I am boosting about 8psi at 5k(which I figure is a good place to launch with slicks, correct me if im wrong) and I am really really worried about snapping an axle. This normally wouldn't be a problem because between all of my friends we have a trailer and a couple tow vehicles but noone will be available this weekend. So my question is who here is using slicks on stock axles and how are they holding up? Anyone have to replace axles? anyone runnign after market axles? I would really like a set of driveshaft shop stage 5 axles but I can't justify spending 1.5k on axles right now.

Zach - Dan (project_tsi) is still running stock axles. I believe he is launching around 4700 RPM's (dan, correct me if I'm wrong). But we did tow it to the track on a car dolley just to be on the safe side. You can rent them from Uhaul for like $30.

So, you haven't ran your car with your slicks yet?
I never did use mine..... I just ended up trading them to Dan. ^^^

Unfortunately Paul I haven't had the time to even get to the track. I have been meaning to but either I have been working or my friends haven't wanted to go/couldn't go and I didn't really want to go by myself so I haven't gone yet. Now we only have 3 track days left for the season and I really don't care who gos with me anymore so nothign is stoping me this saturday. Now the only problem is the slicks are at a buddies shop and he is at SEMA for the rest of the week.
