I am looking into buy my first DSM vehicle and I thought there was no better place to look for answers than here. The car I am looking at is on craigslist (always sketchy I know) But I was wondering if someone could give me input on the vehicle.
It is at the link
Modified 97 Eclipse *Driveable an Runs*

Any information that would pertain to this being a red flag would be wonderful. I do plan to swap the motor and am aware of "Crank walk". Other than that please feel free to throw in your input.

Thank you,

NoobDSM

PS. I am looking to purchase this vehicle next Friday and also was wondering if someone could maybe throw me what they believe that value is of the vehicle.

not sure if troll but....

I wouldnt touch that with a hundred foot pole. that thing is nasty molested riced out and just overall peice of shit.

find a bone stock dsm to start with.

LOL, this guy selling this 420a with a GTE supercharger "V8 Hunter" DSM is a joke. 3500 can land you a decent GSX or GST if you wait. Pass on this one; you wont regret it.

That's a cool car. I would get a turbo model though but that's just me

I am planning a 6 bolt swap from a earlier year so the worthless engine mods aside alone with the stupid stickers xD But I'll look into a GSX or GST. Really wanted to do an HX turbo on a 6 bolt on a 2nd gen body. Is there a spot on the site that explains HX Turbo setups? I didn't see anything searching. Thanks for the replies. I wouldn't pay $3500 of course I talked him down to trading for a97 GSXR 1100 that I got for $2500 xD He was tossing a $100+all the tools.

That's so upsetting. I liked the way the body looked. And the interior. At least i truly see the difference between DSM and a Ricer burner. So I couldn't do any special mods to make a 6 bolt work easy? :(

That car has a Chrysler 420a engine, it mounts in the opposite direction, the ecu, wiring etc.... are different you can't swap a 6 bolt into it.

That car was hideous, a complete abomination.

And no, you can't. If you want a turbo dsm, buy a stock turbo dsm, you will thank yourself later.

Stay away from that one and this LOL............

If you like it, save the pictures so when you do get a 2G, you can make it look like that. On the inside it's few painted panels, re-upholstered seats, and a $50 ebay steering wheel (very comfortable, by the way. Have one like that). Not sure what body kit is on it, but it won't be hard to find out.

"Rice" is a matter of opinion. Some say that anything aftermarket is rice. Some eat rice because their car is all go no show :)

Red flags.
This is the one that I think is the biggest one of all. The car isn't driveable because it needs a $20 belt put on. Wouldn't the car be worth more if it runs and drives?
Simple car selling math.
Car does not run and drive = deduct thousands.

"Still need to be done section" of the ad is bigger than the entire "whats good about the car" section.

Another flag would be no name brands mentioned about most all the performance stuff. Tells me one thing......The best parts imported from china. Delivered ready to fail within the first 1000 miles.

If you like the FNF drifter look with painted interior pieces and add on things like fenders and whatnot then thats your thing but all that stuff bolts on and is easy to do. The mechanical is what you really need to worry about. If it looks cool but doesn't drive then it really isn't that cool is it?

Understandable. After reading the 420a N/T stuff... Looks like I'm going to find me a GSX or GST for sure. Now the question is... Which year GSX or GST has the most options for upgrades for noobs like myself? I'm for sure wanting DSM, coming from UMP modifieds is a bit different for me. Any suggestions? Looking mainly towards AWD since I live in Michigan. Too much weather change for FWD.

You have a good amount of aftermarket support for these cars. Pick a body style. 1g or 2g? Decide what you want to do with it. How much money you want to spend. How much money you will have to spend. What you want to upgrade.

Pull up a few of the supporting vendors and see what kind of parts are available. You have everything from stock used to brand new engineered stuff capable of 1000+ hp. Your price range could be to whatever you want to spend.

So only go for GSX or GST's right? Something pre-turbo'd/something easy to swap a new turbo on?

Thanks for everything guys. Definitely will be around on the forum to see if anything appears in my area for sale.

A GST and GSX are the only models that came with a turbo, but, with money and time you can turbo any one of them. If your all hung up about a 6 bolt swap you will need something 93+, or just get a 1GA with a 6 bolt in it.

Not too hung up, just looking into trying something that I have plently of spare parts for.
But thanks for the input :)
