Gear position sensor?

So this morning I go to start my car and nothing! I have power but the starter would not engage! After work (I had to take another vehicle ) I discovered that if I hold the key in the start position while wiggling the gearshift (with clutch pedal depressed!) then my little rocket will roar to life (well maybe not quite "roar", more like an aggressive growl, but some day it will ROAR...but I digress...). So can anyone tell me where I might find the gear position indicator so that I might "adjust" it? BTW it's a 5 spd.

there isn't a gear position sensor. just a safety/ neutral switch and speed sensor. that's all that's on a 5 speed. what engine do you have?

Your talking about the clutch switch and you have two all u need to do is go underneath your dash and follow the clutch pedal you will see one sensor close and one that's farther up harder to reach if you just unplug the one that's harder to reach it will start without pressing the clutch if that doesn't work their is something else wrong with your car.

I checked the plunger under the dash at the top of the clutch pedal, but that wasn't it. The starter didn't engage until I wiggled the gear shift.

The only other thing I can think of is the starter relay behind your stereo maybe the connector is loose and when you wiggle the shifter it wiggles the connector.check that out
