Is it worth it to get this .63 housing or the .55 Bolt on? If its not a significant difference in flow then why spend the money on a new manifold/02 housing?

Just asking because Im changing turbo set ups soon and I want to know what I should do for housings.

Seems people are having better luck with the hx35 and a .63 housing. The HX40 spools a little on the slow side with it's larger exhaust wheel. (or mine does at least).

By the time you buy WG setup to run the BEP .55 housing you could just as well go with a t3 manifold. THe BEP's aren't internally gated (at least its not an option any more I'm aware of). So either way your looking at an o2 housing with WG provision then the added price of the WG itself. Or an aftermarket manifold.

A cheap cast t3 manifold with WG provosion is usually less money.

Main reason for going with the t3 .70 or .63 housing is the increased flow. The 55 housing is on the small side and you loose a decent amount of power running one.
 
I noticed no major difference in top end performance above 30 psi switching from the .55 A/R BEP to the .63 T3 A/R. From 25-30 psi I saw a couple more lb/min per psi from the .63 A/R. It is almost identical now that I am running 36-37 psi. I am actually buying the .70 A/R tonight!

I made the pass in my sig on the .55 BEP at 27 psi last year. I still haven't managed to beat it. I have had serious drivetrain issues for a while though and hope to make it to the track again soon with the .70 A/R & my Shep stage 3 :hellyeah:
 
I already have everything need for external with BEP .55.

Just wondering if I should go t3 instead of DSM bolt on. If you were in my shoes what would you do?

It would be cheaper for me to go dsm, but if Im going to make more air flow with the .63 I might just go with that. But if its not that big of a difference Ill just go dsm and be done with it. My goal next season is 11.99 with my 8 blade hx35.

I'm sure you'll met that goal pretty easily with the BEP stuff. I actually bought a bep for my hx40 at a swap meet recently. Been looking for a good deal on an external WG 02 housing setup. I think the faster spool-up will out weigh the top end on a mostly street car.
 
I thought the .63 T3 was going to be a guaranteed increase over the .55 BEP. That wasn't my experience like I said above. I wasn't aware of the .70 A/R T3 cause I didn't research enough. I just jumped right on the .63 A/R cause it was T3. If I was to do it again, I would either stick with the DSM housing or step up to the .70 A/R T3.

IMHO if your goal is only a 11.99 than the bolt on housing will do fine for you. I ran a 12.1 @119 on an almost blown up 6 bolt with 110 psi compression on a 8 blade hx 35 in the bolt on housing. The reason why I would say go the t3 route is your gonna eventually want more so might as well go that way now so your not buying twice. I would go with the bep .70 ar though!!

Yes it is a true .63 A/R. We don't sell china junk. Feel free to measure it. PTE uses very bulky castings. They need a place to put there name. FYI Precision gets there casting done over seas.

FYI, I bought one of Tim's ".63a/r T3" housings for a customer's HX35 that was seeking a direct-fit replacement from their Garrett T04E60. The housing was a complete piece of crap- car made no more power and had greater turbine backpressure than the Garrett T04E60 with a smaller T31 turbine as noted by the owner suddenly having trouble holding the wastegate shut above 30psi with the Holset on the car while never having such an issue with the T04E60 mounted.

The Garrett 60-trim turbo used a true Garrett .63 T3 housing, so this basically means the Tim's housings aren't truly a .63 a/r as they're advertised if a HX35 with a larger turbine wheel has more turbine backpressure than a Garrett with a smaller turbine wheel in the same "claimed" housing a/r.....I basically called that two years ago on the first page of this thread. A BEP .55 a/r bolt-on housing would've flowed more.

Just some food for thought before anyone else wastes $200 on one of these housings.

I was looking at his Ebay sales just the other day and happened to see you left him positive feed back LOL

id really like to find out where he is getting those housing from to figure out what they really are
 
Well the results didn't come back until months later- the housing was shipped quick and looked to be as described, it just didn't flow for shit.

To anyone who wants a .63 4-bolt housing on their HX35....buy a Genuine Garrett housing and get it machined.
 
I supposeit's not a direct comparison, but I recently picked up a BEP hx40 housing and HKS cast manifold for an insanely cheap price. I currently have the .63 "tims" housing and I must say somethign in my combo is not right. I'm thinking it is the housing.

It doesn't spool any faster than the .70 from what I've seen and at 32 psi I only trapped 124. (car is full weight all option and I'm 220 or so)

Seems down on power though as stated above. I hope to be swapping the BEP housing in shortly. So I'll have a comparison and both housings in my hand. Maybe I could cram a bunch of clay in them and try to get the volute diameters. As "Tims turbos" swears this is a custom made housing specifically for them and is indeed a .63. If I wasn't so poor I'd cut the thing in half and we would know for sure. :D

Do you have the t4 divided(twinscroll) HKS cast mani? If so, one contributing factor could be the fact of a divided mani with open housing?
