i have propabally come to one of the hardest decisions to make since i've joined the DSM world, as of right now i own a 1993 eagle talon TSi, and a 1992 Galant Vr4 145/1000. I need to git rid of one of them, do to a shortage on money, and i will be heading off to college soon so i have no need to own two cars.
i will explain a little about the cars, and hopefully you guys can help me out with which one i should keep.

Eagle Talon:talon:

The Good:
32k miles on the engine 105 on body
mechanically sound
Very clean no rust and very few minor dents

The Bad:
Auto transmission
needs tires and a front end allignment

Galant Vr4:dsm:

The Good:
Very hard to find
strong manuel transmission

The Bad:
rust, will need to be removed asap but, most of it is on parts that can be removed and replaced IE. Doors and hood
140k miles on engine and car, will need engine rebuild soon.

I know most of you will say it's my choice, but what would you do if you had to get rid of one of them?

i think i put somewhere in the thread that the talon is AWD just to clear that up so no body is getting confused, but yeah still i know the Galant VR4 are hard to find, so i'm keeping it over the talon tsi AWD

im biased twords the GVR4 because for one, i have one and there so rare and everyone loves them. doing 12's in a dsm everyone thinks yea thats fast but no biggie, doing 12's in a galant and people are in your face aswell as some companys trying to find out what you got and everyone is impressed bigtime ;).

My advice would be to stay clear of VW/Audis. Specially if they are older ones...they are very prone to electrical problems.

You are in college, you don't need a too "blingy" or fast car...just something that transports you.

If you want fast and reliable, go with a domestic. But then MPG would suck. That's why I told you to find a clean, swapped Honda. You could find one for cheap, and they're somewhat quick and still being very reliable.
Haha Honda No Just stay dsm all the way

There is a reason why this is such a hard decision. That's because college is thrown into the mix. It would be easy if it was just a "which car should I go with" question, but it's really not. Obviously you'd want to keep the VR-4 for future modding and just because it is a rare car. But, with college, you really have to decide for yourself how realistic you want to be, sometimes the best decisions aren't the most fun (who's to say a AWD TSi isn't fun anyways?), and it looks like the best decision would be the Talon, if it is truely more reliable. I'd say VR-4 if it was just a choice between which to modify and fix up, but in this case, you're gonna need something reliable that won't cause problems down the road when you're poor.

Answer this to yourself: Which car would you rather drive cross country?
Then, there you go.

keep the VR4, i've got one i'll need to part out soon, so if you need body panels w/ o rust

tsi's... meh, there are guys around here w/ 13sec. tsi's that would do straight trades for GvR-4's. Keep the VR4, having 4 doors is a blessing!

how much would you sell the VR4 for anyways? i kno at least one person here that wants one very badly! you can just pm me er... something

see no one around where i live drives DSM's cuase all they hear are the problems they have, if there were people that knew about DSM's around here i would have thought my talon would have gone along time ago for $3500

Hehehehe, I've owned two Hondas before...

I don't hate on any brands, DSM's are great project cars and with good care can make reliable daily drivers, but a swapped hatch fits nicely in the category of cheap, reliable and somewhat quick...

It's not too shabby to have a 14 second cheap daily beater... :thumb:

auto trader auto trader auto trader

my friend has a b16 jdm civic...reliable..well so far and its definately quick..burns oil a bit..but anything will at 9k :)

Well, I would try to find at leat a Civic with a B18C. B16's are slow, torqueless engines...unless they're in a CRX o EF Civic (Because they're cheap). In 92 and newer Civics, get a B18 engine, they're worth the extra $ over the B16.

Sorry for giving Honda info in a DSM forum :coy: But I like to help whenever I can :)

or try to find a hatchback with an LS Block With a Vtec Head 190hp there i mean im not turning on you guys i love DSM's to the Day I die watch there will be a picture of my car on my gravestone LOL

That's know as LS-VTEC.

If done right, it's a very nice combo, well tuned and depending on the parts used (Stock Honda pistons or aftermarket, stronger rods, upgraded valvetrain, etc) they can make over 200whp.

But the problem is, I wouldn't buy a LS-VTEC engine unless I knew the guy that built it knew what he was doing and you could check it's reliability...because a bad built LS-VTEC is the recipe for disaster.

Dude, you should have made up your mind already!!!OMG
You have had all the opinions you need!
What is your final desision?:D

well all the honda 4 bangers are fairly torqueless motors, the only thing that saves them is the vtec which if isnt tuned right doesnt do anything usefull to the motor. People say they are reliable, and which yeah they are, but they also have the great possibility of throwing timing belts. To me civics are like go carts, loud ,fairly fast and very small

Ah #### all these cars geta jeep, thier reliable :D.....jk LOL..well they are reliable but i still love cars :thumb:

alright heres what i got, going to keep trying to sell the talon, and if it dosen't go by the end of this summer before i go off to college, i'll see how much money i have to see if i can pay off most of the loan and still have some money for college, other wise the VR4 has to go up for sale, and which ever goes first after that is the one that goes and i keep the other one, but i plan to leave what ever one i keep stock to try and keep the reliability factor intact...
Again Thanx for all the input guys,
Shane

Put it up on AutoTrader dude. The 2nd day this guy from 250 miles away called to buy my car for more than I had paid for it! :thumb:

I'd keep the vr-4.I own both and i love them both.If i HAD to sell one i'd sell the talon, but only because i got kids.If your talon was 5 speed,id keep the talon, but since it's auto,i'd keep the gvr4.My gvr4 has 130k and takes my kids to school everyday. It has issues, but at 130k what car doesn't that hasn't been neglected(prevous owner). My talon will run circles around the vr4,but the vr4 is bone stock, exept for a dsm shifter and a gt grant steering wheel so thats an unfair comparison. However if you say roadtrip,i say vr4.So if you say daily driver,i say vr4,more room, more comfortable, able to fly under radar of jhon q law. Those things got value man.i say keep the vr4,like old man said, whats there to think about

as of now i have it on carsoup, but auto trader dose seem like the way to go so it may be up on there soon, i'll keep you guys updated as things go
Shane

well i went cruising in the VR4 tonight, and had a little fun with some other cars, lost a few cuase of really bad starts, but the best expression i have to say was when i passed a mustang, like it was standing still from a 30 roll, and all the guy did was laugh at me, and he had no idea.
Also saw another VR4 in a neighboring town which was really cool to see, just thought i would let you guys know keeping you updated!!!!

sold the talon for 1k:barf: , the car started making a loud knocking noise, ###### a spun rod bearing or a bad balance shaft bearing but non the less the car is finally gone, and out of my hair. On the bigger and better things now.... GVR4:thumb:
