Just my luck...the 91 Gsx that belonged to one of my best friends was going to be mine in 2 days. Parent's agreed to co-sign the loan and everything. Car is valued at over 7g's and the price was cheaper!!! Anyways,

I'm going to be aquiring my old 90 talon motor back from the guy I sold it to. It needs to be rebuilt to say the least. So I should go big or go home right? The car I was planning on buying was COMPLETELY built with anything from hks 272 combo cams to .50 over pistons/rings/block.

So I want to rebuild this motor with the nicest parts and want goals somewhere around 500-600hp. Seeing as how I'm only a "noob" I need some help with deciding what's best for my motor. What would my cost for everything be around? I know turbos/wastegates/exhaust is not included in this price...but I'm just checking out prices before this project gets underway. So finally, any opinions on the following items/prices would be GREAT HELP for me.

1.Piston/Ring Combo?
2.Go 2.3L and still be a "street-drivable" car, or just stay 2.0 and go crazy?
3.Head options-3 angle? 5 angle? springs/retainers? cam combo? is 272/272 good or go higher?
4.Compression Ratio's...What's better than others and why?
5.Tranny recommendations? Clutch Recommendations?

ANY help is appreciated and I'm thankful for it.

Im thinking it is going to cost around 10k if you get high end parts maybe even more. You will need engine control modual=$500, Injectors=$300, Turbo=$1100(big one), pistons/ rods=$700,cams= , stroker kit $2000, Intercooler kit=$700, machine work, trans build, clutch, etc. Obviously this is all variable prices. One thing I can vouch for is the ACT 2600 clutch, very good for AWD. You might want to go with the ACT2900 for the HP your looking for. Good luck with your project and make sure you keep us updated. I would like to see how your project progresses.

well i'm in just about the same boat and i've found it's not what other people have that you want. it is going your own way with what you want. you have to do research like crazy and figure out what you want. there is tons of posts of what people have done for guidelines just research them and you'll go good! but personally i'm going with a 2.3 stroker for my gsx with some bc I beam rods and some JE or ROSS pistons and then ###### going fp3 cams and BC valvetrain with double valve springs......i'll go with i 60 trim turbo ### that's the biggest one that will fit in there without doing a remote mount. i'm also doing a greddy fmic with a smic and ###### some 660cc injectors with a DSMLINK and msd ignition, and i'm not sure but i'm thinkin a ACT 2900 clutch and i've already gotten a lightened flywheel and my tranny will stay stock for now but will upgrade when money rolls in but if you have the money i'd definately go for a upgrade and i've seen shep's tranny's very well admired my many. and i'm sure there's more that i'm not thinkin of right now but that's a good start.

Well, I'm in the proccess of building an my Dsm up. And I would say it will cost you about $15K. I went with 2.3 stroker, C4GS/4G64 crank OEM with Eagle H-beam rods, Wiseco 8.8:1 with .40 over. Ported head with springs, retainers, 280 cams. I still need to decide about tranny between locker diff and 4 spider one. Other things devotuning twin disk clutch, OEM 4 bolt rear end, and some fuel stuff. Turbo, I think I will go with something bigger than 57 trim. It's a lot of time, and even more money. However, I would recommend going 2.0L Anyway Good Luck!!!

1.Piston/Ring Combo- eagle/crower rods and je pistons/weisco/manleys pistons- they all have been proven for high HP number
2.Go 2.3L and still be a "street-drivable" car, or just stay 2.0 and go crazy? stay 2.0 in my opinion. just get a good sized turbo
3.Head options-3 angle? 5 angle? i have a 3 angle, 5 is for the ballers
4.springs/retainers? brian crowers springs and retainers, i have them, i love them. rev to 9ish.
5.cam combo? is 272/272 good or go higher? 272s for street, but if your running a smaller turbo, run 264/272, theve been proven to make more power than 272s, untill you start pushing alot of ait
6.Compression Ratio's...What's better than others and why?.. stay 8.5... just easier to deal with, but higher comp makes more power, again your preference
7..Tranny recommendations? Clutch Recommendations? ACT 2600 at the least, light weight flywhel, if u want get it built.

i was just sharing my opinions on what i would do. hope i helped any

thanks for the help everyone! This should get me started. I want to reveal a "pretty funny" thing that happened but I'll make a new thread in a few days and delete this one. Thanks again!

I think your best bet would be these parts.

2.3 stroker.(there all good really)
Forged pistons and rods with 8:5.1 (ross, manely, eagle) Those are all good companies
Dsmlink w/ 2g eprom.
Supporting guages
Maf-t to meter air flow to the fullest
BIG fmic with hard piping
Shep tranny
Act flywheel and clutch (2100 or 2600)
I remcomend upgrading the suspension.
Axels and driveshaft. Since 500-600hp is a lot
50 trim turbo should be good for you
A nice tubular manfiold.
3' exhaust
SMIM

Thats the basics for any major HP build you usually see here on dsmtuners.
